Big day tomorrow.

Congratulations and Good luck!

When my wife was induced it took 5 days until little one was finally born, as someone else said...pack yourself a change of cloths.

On the first 3 nights I went home and came back in the morning, as partners were not allowed to stay while she was on the induction ward, it was not until she finally started to get some progress that I stayed the 4th night sleeping (well...maybe an hour) on the floor.

It's not always fast.

Induction is rarely fast...in our case, they started the induction on Monday morning and it was finally over on Thursday/Friday night...she was really reluctant to come out! It usually takes longer when it's the first baby (especially when you're over 30).
Tip: If/when they offer her the epidural, tell her to go for it! My wife has a very high tolerance to pain and still, she said she couldn't have done it without it on the last stretch. It won't numb her completely anyway but will make the pain much more tolerable.
Good luck and hope for the best, just be prepared, it's all worth it at the end! :D

You sound very organised.... hope all goes well for you both! :)

Haha famous last words.

100% guarantee that the "plans" will be out the window within 12 hours of arriving at the hospital. :D:D

Can I suggest one thing you do and it's amazing, I did it with my daughter.

Every Monday ( or pick a regular day) take a photo of your kid.

Each week for a year. When nipper hits 1 you'll have 52 pictures. Stick them in a photo book and you'll have a great present to give them later on in life. My daughter turned 12 there and I gave her the photo album with all 52 pics in it (well a copy of the pics as I'm keeping them too) and she said it was the best present she ever got. Brought a tear to my eye if I'm honest lol. To see the change from week 1 to week 52 is amazing and a real pleasure :)

There are significant downsides to epidural, it should be noted.

Mrs Cheesyboy went without with both of ours; there just never came a point when one seemed to be necessary. That point may come in a 3-day induced labour, however :)

Ours has started sleeping through after 18 long months and it's been bliss these last few weeks!

My advice to you both is sleep when you can, don't just say you will - DO IT. Whilst it sounds like common sense and decency now, remember the day your other half has had and tell her to do the same. Snipping at one and another escalates quickly and rationality and common sense goes out the window when you're running on 2-3 hours sleep a night for weeks on end.

BUT... it's awesome. Beyond awesome, our little boy brings a smile to our face every single moment of the day and is our greatest achievement. More so that he's worked out how to turn the PC on, then the monitor then puts my Roccat Kaves on to be like Daddy.

Enjoy it bud, and good luck to you both!

edit - oh and enjoy a beer tonight!

regarding the weekly photo book - I was going to do that anyway. I thought it would be a nice present for later in life plus you get to see the little one growing up too.

I know all babies are different but if he is anything like my daughter he will start to sleep through after 6 weeks.. That was a scare I can tell you. Waking up at 8am wondering why we both had a good nights sleep... Cue us both darting for the nursery to check on her and find her laying there looking at the mobile and playing with her toys.... Never before have I been so relieved.
