Just how nutty are the Green party?

I agree with lots of their policies, such as this one, their rulings on cannabis, most fo their food and agriculture stuff, and others, but a functioning economy is a basic right by itself, border controls and a able and equiped defence force are a must - the Green policies would, in their current form, destroy these things, and thus I find it impossible to do anything but condem them.

The left is and always has been the sane rationalist party. Which to say, there are golden nuggets contained within for any old joe to see, such as abolishing the secondary stealth income tax that is national insurance.

This thread, and many others like it, is simply a response to the greens finally being given a fair public platform. The right are terrified of the left, because they know the general public (who contrary to belief are not stupid) will find allot of resonance in many of their socialist ideals. As such, they are mobilising early (before the debates have even begun) to discredit their opponent - The greens are crazy, nutty, odd balls, ridicule, attack. This is nothing new and a (morally bankrupt) practice widely used in business, industry and politics.

They are picking through the policies, giving no debate to the sensible ideas and focusing on anything that can be distorted, bent, made absurd. As such, when the proper debates finally happen, you the general public will enter with the preconception that greens are to be dismissed, and the battle is already won.

Such is the nature of the pathetic, petty, point scoring politics we have today.

The lie is that they are further left than the UK. In social terms they're roughly the same but their governments are far less interventionist and markets are far more unregulated and "capitalist" than the UK. Quite apart from the fact that Norway has virtually limitless cash from the North Sea.

The Greens manifesto is, quite simply, bat**** insane. It makes the UKIP one look like a paragon of intellectual discourse

Any one can take the time to read their own published manifesto for themselves which isn't really that far removed from the points being discussed neither in the headlines or the detail.

While there is a lot in their manifesto that makes sense or would be a good thing to work towards there is also a lot in there that is bat **** insane and would be playing Russian roulette (potentially if not that likely literally) with the long term peace, quality of life and stability of this country.

while I agree with the spirit behind almost all of the green policies, I can see that the implementation of most would be financially impossible. having a read through those UKIP policies, I'm alarmed how agreeable I find them....they still won't get my vote, because I still get the wolf in sheep's clothing vibe from them.

my understanding isn't that great as I haven't spent long enough examining them to make an informed choice, but will endevour to get my facts in line before the vote

Norway invested its North Sea oil money in a social fund. Every Norwegian is now benefitting from this state-owned fund. That's a massively left-wing policy.

As for Norway and Denmark having unregulated markets, are you have a laugh? Have you tried to buy beer over there?

Yes, but it isn't limitless. To add to that, the Greens want to reduce the amount that is created.

Err yes it is under the current system, the fact that the money supply is not expanding as quickly as usual is a symptom of a slow economy. Hence QE and low rates to try to get banks to create credit.

What a shame we have a whole thread where the majority of posts are naming the Green Party as nutty and arguing over economics whilst only a few have actually addressed really important issues that may also impact on us all at some point eg the right to die. Just goes to show how shallow and self-centred peoples' priorities actually are. Give a stuff about money for things they may want but never need - sure - give a stuff about intrinsic basic human rights and suffering - nope.

Be careful here with the generalisations, I support all the stuff you mention, but believe that the green solutions are wrong and won't address many of the issues, or are contradicted by their other polices (such as their dichotomy between tackling poverty and increasing energy costs).

Many people focus on the economics because it makes their social policies unachievable, not because they don't agree with them.

A good friend of mine is bent on the green party getting in. He is adamant that we can live in this utopian peaceful world and we should be rid of our military as it stands. He cannot accept that this ideal utopia cannot be achieved. Bloody hippies.

They are free to pump out as many sprogs as they want and stay at home as long as they want but i think the keeping the job for an entire year is a **** taker. If they want that kind of stay at home time they leave the job and when they're ready to go to work again then find another job. As i say maternity has become ridiculous and has caused employers to think twice about hiring young women into important roles

Well least we know you haven't found a women to breed with yet! thank god for that! Or you're at least 12

Maternity rights are absolute for very good reasons

Sounds exactly like a friend of one my mates. He's the stereo-typical 'crusty' white guy with dreadlocks that looks like he needs a bloody good scrub. I'll tell you mad this guy is, one of his lifelong dreams is to have all modes of motorised transport abolished and for us to return to human and animal powered transport.
