Dying Light

Same here, I'm actually finding myself hating what's going on within this industry recently and it's turning me away from it.
While pre-order/shop exclusives for non-essential 'pretty' things makes the world go round - having stuff like modes being block or in the case of Evolve expensive DLC being touted as free if you pre-order it worries me what we are allowing publishers to get away with. It puts me off the game than makes me want it even more, but I dont know why that is , I just knee-jerk react that its some Trojan horse (armour) type of offer...

2014 taught me that while its cool to get things day 1 it doesnt really matter in reality if you just wait a week or two to confirm what you are buying is worth what you are paying...

Its mad we do it with gaming, I dont do it with any other purchase (including other media)

Release all confirmed:

So, for a physical copy of the game UK has to wait until February 27th, not really what I would call a short delay. At least they have confirmed everything now, but it has been a little bit of a cluster........

PC it is. **** paying 50 quid on a console for the digital version.

Can't believe this. A short delay would be a few days. Not an entire month.

The problem is that people are happily handing over money for these practices, so there's no incentive for publishers to do anything else.

Other media doesn't have the community and self-fuelling hype-wagon to whip people up into a buying frenzy before anyone has actually tried the product. People will grow up sooner or later though I guess!

Some people reckon this might be deliberate. Not so sure I believe that one but it does make sense. You can't trade digital copies. And digital tends to be more expensive.

I am not sure if it is deliberate or not. However, there was quite a few people on the Dying Light facebook page that was asking why retailers who had the boxed version already in the UK/EU were not being allowed to ship them. So, according to these people at least some retailers in Europe have the boxed version of the game, but they are not allowed to ship them. If that is the case, and I am not saying it definitely is, then the whole affair is more suspect.

They have now released another statement:

Dear gamers,

As you already know, today we detailed our launch timing for Dying Light. Although the changes affect only the release of boxed copies in certain territories, we want to show all of you our appreciation for your continued support. Thus, we’re really happy to announce that “Be the Zombie” will be available for FREE to everyone, on all platforms, in all territories.

We’ll also be giving away extra weapon dockets to everyone who pre-ordered Dying Light and signed up at http://dockets.dyinglightgame.com/ If you haven't registered your pre-order, do so now to receive those extra weapon dockets.

We want to thank you for your patience and support in this matter and can’t wait for you to enjoy playing Dying Light and invading other players’ game in the “Be the Zombie” mode. The video below can give you a glimpse of what you can expect to experience...

Once again, thank you for your patience and support.

The Dying Light Team

So, if I am correct, quite a lot(?) of people paid extra for this 'exclusive' through Amazon(?) that everyone who buys the game will now get!?

Nice backtrack. ****ers. Really starting to get ****ed off with the way this is all going. No more preorders from me...except maybe Bloodbourne :p

Any news on when retail copies for this are being released? Anywhere doing decent price for digital version? Don't really want to pay £55 for the digital version!

27th February seems to be the date on a lot of sites now.

So far it is like Dead Island mixed with Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed, Mirror's Edge, Minecraft and a smattering of Fallout 3.

Pretty fun :p

I've been reading some opinions about the game on a couple of sites and they all seem quite positive. The main complaint I saw is that it can get repetitive and there's no quick travel option so you have to run EVERYWHERE.
