Are you a seat belt offender?

By that, I mean, do you ever drive without wearing one?

If so. Why?

I have worn a seat belt since the mid 60's when my parents had three point harnesses fitted in the back of the family car after a minor accident which saw me shaken up a bit but not hurt.

Nowadays I would no more drive without belting up than i would do so naked!

and yet there is a small, but not insignificant, minority of drivers who persistently refuse to do so.

If any of you do fall into this category, I would find it interesting to know your reasons.

The way I see it unless you're constantly getting in and out the vehicle there really is no excuse not too and you thoroughly deserve exiting the vehicle through the windscreen.

Nope. Always wear one. Unless taking the car off the drive.
I get an annoying bong if I don't, but even on cars before that, I still did :)

No, I wouldn't ever contemplate driving without one, though I don't always instinctively put it on in the back of a taxi - I can't even explain why, wouldn't dream of doing that in a friends car. Stupidity probably the best explanation!

My car has an annoying siren if you drive without one. Though even if it didn't play the sound, I would wear it.

I don't find them uncomfortable and it's added layer of safety.

Do people just wear belts because the car beeps if you don't?

I've never had a car which beeps but you always put the belt on right, it's just instinctive when you get in the car.

Have always worn one and always will. Dad is a fireman so cuts people out of mashed up cars/peels their faces off of the inside of windscreens for a living, a few tales from him when I was younger instilled into me just how fatal it could be if you don't wear one.

Always as a driver & passenger. It's not uncomfortable, or restrictive, but that's the normal reason given for not wearing them.

You have to, it's the law.

EDIT: in before you can be medically exempt.

Or if you are making frequent deliveries not further than 50 yards between your last ;)

And no, I am a seatbelt wearer. To not wear it feels plain weird. If you brake sharply from about 5mph whilst not wearing your seatbelt you find yourself being thrown forward. Now imagine the G forces involved in a head on collision or a roll over. 99% of the time you'd be done for.

Too many people (van drivers especially!) still do not wear seatbelts - it is mental.

I just do it automatically as soon as I get in a car now. I think I would actually find it hard to stop myself now.

I do. However an old boss of mine doesn't.

He had an accident when he was younger which he would have been killed had he been wearing a seatbelt. But on that occasion he was thrown from the car and escaped unhurt.

Thats his reasoning anyhow
