Did I do well?!?!

Yeah, will do :)

I'm buying from the ** No competitors, this includes hinting ** so I'm really not too worried.

What's odd is that Hazro are now supposedly made in England, yet are crap about warranty.

** No competitors, this includes hinting ** to the rescue!

Will never understand ALX.
Makes thread about 4k, doesn't want 4k. Gets 1600p, moans that we're making him feel upset because he made a terrible decision with his purchase. Claims 4k in pointless as it means playing at 30-40fps, and there's nothing about in his budget range - despite people showing him otherwise....he then, goes and gets a 4k monitor above his original budget...?

Will never understand Tonester. Follows Andy around all over the forums attacking him all the time.

Do I really have that sort of power over you to annoy you that much?!?!

http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/6...-4k-monitor-4k-g-sync-is-g-lorious/index.html

Take a read over that. Due to the Acer being G-sync it steps in when things get rough and keeps games smooth.

As for budget? I have said numerous times that there really wasn't a budget, just a rough one. I wanted the right display and I believe I've found it.

Do you think I was worrying about budget when I spent £1400 on two graphics cards dude?

Seriously, it's time to get over me upsetting you about X99. Hanging onto hatred isn't good for any one.

Ego much.
Shankly thinks i follow him around, humbug thinks i follow him around. Admittedly, it's only be you three to come to that conclusion, most other people understand i'm always on these forums so just post.

Not a clue why you quoted your card prices, lol. The fact you've mentioned them probably means you thought about the budget a bit ;) Not that i care, buy what you want. As for X99, what did you say? I honestly cannot remember.

Of course I thought about the budget. I've spent two of the most stressful weeks of my life trying to find the right monitor. It's really bloody hard !!!

One has 60hz but splits two 30hz signals, one is 60hz but only via Displayport, all have crap response times, one seems perfect, then you find out it's 1080p... I've had to learn god knows what about things I really didn't care about... Monitors really are Satan's PC accessory !!

Seriously monitors interest me that much that when my Custom PC mag arrives for the bog I never read the reviews for monitors. I just groan to myself and skip to the good stuff.

I really hope I never have to buy a bloody monitor again.

What do you have against display port?
Also, do you realise the monitor you ordered ONLY has display port?

Well initially I was rather annoyed that my cards only have one. I know, I'm not about to go surround, but hey, still something to consider.

Now that I've found the right screen that does what I want it to do, and, smooths out games at lower FPS? I'm more than happy with it.

But as I explained, buying a monitor is a bit of a nightmare really. It wouldn't be that bad if there were some good ones out there that offered a good few of the features but most are like, buy it for one thing sacrifice another.

And when you're spending £500? it's kinda frustrating. I can't tell you how many times I said "AHA ! I have found my monitor !" only to read the small print and realise it wasn't what I wanted.

Personally, I'd never buy a B-grade monitor, as could have backlight bleed, bad IPS glow, or be cosmetically damaged in some way. Or it could be perfect with simply a bit of minor box damage. You just never know, and it'll cost you to return if it's something minor like that.

You still have DSR to fall back on with B-Grade. I have bought 3x monitors from the B-Grade clearance line and only once got a faulty one. Probably about the same success rate as those who pay full price. ;)

Gsync doesn't magically make 30-40fps super playable or fun (my opinion) it still feels sluggish.

This is my experience as well, at best gsync simply removes tearing in a similar fashion to vsync, but removes the associated lag. Having tried a Gsync monitor I found 30-40 FPS still looked like 30-40FPS. Gsync does not magically make 30-40fps = to 60+FPS.

i'm only holding off , waiting for the refresh of gpu's then i'm going to be going through the same pain, and I can sympathise. i'm not looking forward to making that decision.

I can't make my mind up on viewing ratio, ips over response, resolution 1440 or 4k.

It's an absolute minefield, then the comments like your lucky to get a perfect one .
its a complete lottery.

Seriously I can't even begin to tell you how stressful it was. At least with GPUs the reviews are clearer, and not some silly sod going on about "If you look at it from under the desk a TN panel is awful".

At least with graphics cards you get two manufacturers, two sets of drivers and a wide selection that are very clearly documented. Monitors are just a complete nightmare.

So far I've been completely besotted with Dying Light at 4k. The first few hours it was running very smoothly and a good FPS count. It gets a little choppy at times (usually when rendering a new scene after you sleep or something) but there's no input lag and it's been a pretty pain free experience.

It's a great monitor. There are a few things I don't like (Windows allows you to set text and so on to large but certain things are a bit of a squint fest) but in gaming it's absolutely spot on and that's what I bought it for :)

Probably the first time I've ever seen a game with completely smooth objects in it.

yes i'm looking forward to the results. hopefully there will be more experience and info out there from you poor ginny pigs before I make the jump.

but thanks for your input, i'll be looking you up for a follow up in a few months before i break the bank.

Alx, glad you are sorted mate and got a monitor you like. I know where you are coming from as I deliberated long and hard about going 29" Ultrawide/1440p/4K/TN/Ips.......etc jesus it was so tough. Luckily I had a different experience in the b grade section, gambled on a 28" AOC U2868PQU 4K for £299. It looked brand new and has no marks or defects and came complete but for a dvi cable(which I had anyway). Love this monitor, anyway what I wanted to say and a lot of folks miss about these 4K monitors is that they (well this Aoc) scale perfectly, that is to say I can happily drop to 1440p or even 1080p and it still looks great. So if my single 290 card struggles at 4K (I'm constantly surprised how well it copes to be honest) its so easy to drop down, depends on the game really, there are several older games that will play at 4K very well, well enough for me anyway, smooth is smooth and I don't care about fps, so many on here hung up on 60/120fps, but that's fine if that's your thing. Just read my latest Micromart magazine and was delighted to see my monitor came top in their 4K monitor review. So b grade is a risk but sometimes worth it.

Disappointed to see Ocuk 'forgetting' to mention customers statutory rights over the 90 day warranty but will forgive them as they are doing great things with the 970 fiasco. :D
