Ghostbusters Reboot

It amazes me, GB3 has been in limbo for nearly 26 years, Harold Ramis dies and this crap gets green lighted what seems 5 minutes later. So what happened all the proposed scripts for a part 3 that according to Dan Aykroyd were being worked on? It was rumoured to be a handover, would be preferable to yet another Hollywood reboot.

:( Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas, as long as studio producers think that remake/reboot of classic films will be money spinners this trend will continue for a fair while methinks, as well as me away from a cinema too.

GB1 is awful. Cringe-worthy dialogue, acting, and over-dosing on cheese. I saw it (again) last year on the TV and realised only a child could enjoy it :p

/looks through the rules to see if he can possibly apply anything to justify banning this lunatic and hater of classic sci-fi/fantasy comedy movies.

IIRC the reason that GB3 has been in limbo for 30 years is/was that at different points pretty much each of the main people who own the rights/performed major characters either wasn't interested in the script, or had their own ideas and couldn't agree.

In some ways it seems that the only way they could go ahead was with completely new characters and a reboot given the disagreements.

Personally I don't think it could be as good as the original which was a classic, but it's interesting that from what I can tell at least two of the cast of this new version are people Murrey (who was one of the main hold outs for GB3 at various times) reckoned would be good fits for the job.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but didn't someone 'get done' for claiming that the original Star Wars was **** some time back? Would that not count as a precedent for dealing with this sort of heresy? :D

I'm not sure what their target market is. I assume the majority of blokes will be like "Ghostbusters with women... and women that are not Jessica Alba, Emily Blunt, Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Lawrence? Fudge that".

And then women will be like "Ghostbusters? Pfff, hand me Magic Mike".

Aimed at a younger audience then I guess...

This +1

The fact is it 'might' be successful with the Bridesmaid crowd in the US but outside of the US no one knows who they are. I was like 'Who?' today. It'll bomb hugely round the world because of that.

It wasn't

In fact the creators advised that no one under the age of 8 should see it.

Yeah? So I must have imagined being hyped as **** as a 5 year old when I was taken to see it at the cinema. My Ghost Busters sticker album would beg to differ too.
The terror dogs did scare me a little, I'll admit.

Do 9 year olds not count as a younger audience?

They didn't set out to be a kids movie or appeal to a younger audience. They've said (repeatedly) they just made the movie they wanted to make.

When I first saw the reports of this I thought it was a wind up, a Ghostbusters with an all female cast? I can only imagine this will be a steaming pile of ****.

One to avoid at all costs.

Hopefully Harold Ramis returns from the afterlife during filming and scares the crap out of all the cast meaning they are unable to finish :o

I find it interesting that a while ago Ernie Hudson when quizzed about this reboot stated "then why call it ghostbusters", then a while later he said "no comment", then most recently he thinks its great....I'm guessing the ink must have dried on his cameo cheque.

Dan Akyroyd seems to be all for anything that keeps the franchise alive, though after 25 years of waiting for a followup to say a lot of people are ****ed off is an understatement. All the talk about a part 3 for years on end, then it all gets squashed and a reboot is the order of the day and he's all for it. Seems that money talks as he owns a large chunk of the franchise.

All in all it seems that the game released a few years back was part 3, the storyline was good and would have made a pretty good movie. :(

Nope Nope Nope Nope
