Gaming + Development Build around £1600

Its as simple as loading the XMP profile in the memory section of the BIOS, save+exit and thats it.

The Teamgroup 2666 is on today only deal.

Thanks :)

Whats the process like for overclocking RAM to their advertised speeds? Is it quite difficult? Recommended?.. Or will it even make much of a noticeable difference anyways? :))

EDIT: I just realized that the £107 ram is 2666 speed too, why are the G.skills so much more expensive?

I think I am going to go for my original build, the motherboard supports next gen CPU's aswell (i think) so when I did want to upgrade would just need a new CPU and DDR4 ram

Your original build is Z97 and that doesn't support DDR4. You would need X99 or wait for Skylake which will probably be DDR4. That isn't due until later in the year.

Ah I kept seeing 4th and 5th generation cpu support on the motherboards so I thought that meant I can put a 5820k in it

Heres my final build - If everyone thinks it's good I'll order it now!

Damn you :)

After looking at the specs of the gaming 7 and the ud3h it seems the gaming 7 has everything that the ud3h has and more, yet the ud3h is a bit more expensive? The free upgrade is pretty amazing, but not considering that, why would one choose the ud3h over the gaming 7?

They are on two different platforms and are not interchangeable.

Haswell and Haswell Refresh (Devils Canyon) is on Socket LGA1150 and uses Z97 chipset motherboards. These boards will also support the upcoming Broadwell cpu. You also have Z87 chipset motherboards that support Haswell and Haswell refresh (With a bios update) but they don't support Broadwell.
This platform only supports DDR3 Ram.

Haswell-E is on socket LGA2011-3 and that uses X99 chipset boards which support DDR4 Ram and cpu's such as the i7 5820K.

Thanks for explaining :)

Alrighttt, i'm going to order it tonight!! I'm nervous I've missed something or got some incompatible parts though, it's so much moneys D:

One last check with you guys! Also, do I need to buy thermal paste? I just used the stock fan for my current i7 920 and it came with it already on, and whats your thoughts on buying a static wrist band thingy?

I ended up going for the asus board as I'm liking asus at the moment, and I upgraded to the hero, I know its mainly a cosmetic upgrade but I thought an extra 30 quid ain't that bad as I have the 760t case. I also reverted back to the g.skills because I missed the awesome ram deal yesterday and I am going to overclock them. It's quite annoying really that if I had bought it yesterday I would have saved £150 :( -Also just realised my ram and psu is out of stock.. damn, and h105! I might have to buy those things elsewhere if i still want to order tonight

Ended up buying 850 evga psu, AF140 red LED and h105 off competitor. as they were out of stock on ocuk, bought the rest including the CabelMod set (thanks lee!) off ocuk as well as sp120 quiets for the h105. I got that stuff on the 12 month buy now and pay later and it's been accepted, just need to sign and post the agreement.

The dust filters seem to be out of stock everywhere, but I'm not 100% sure if I'll need them, I'm going to put the h105 at the top of the inside of the case, not sure if its exhausting out of the case or sucking in, if it's the later will prob need a dust filter.

Still waiting on the paperwork to go through.

I've decided to buy a mechanical hard drive as well for archiving. I don't know much about them and I see a lot of different options. Could I get some suggestions? I've heard that western digital are the best but there are different prices and I'm not sure what the difference is (without bringing space into the equation). I just want a reliable hard drive 1TB + (preferably 2TB) which doesn't make too much noise or get too hot.

Edit: After looking again, there seems to be some WD 2TB HDD's for only £64 but then some which go up to nearly £200.. Not sure which to go for.. Does this seem like a good option? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-415-WD

I'd maybe consider a pair of 2tb and run raid 1 (mirrored)? Then you have fault tolerance on your important data? Cheaper too probably :-)

I would get 1 or 2 of these.

Personally I would have gone X99 and a six core cpu..

So much more grunt for 3d rendering, it really makes a difference.
