970 to 980 ?

Mine is an XFX 650W bronze so if mine is ok yours certainly should be! May be worth trying a format? What card did you have previously? Did you do a clean driver install?

Gonna try it in my son's pc later just make sure it's the card and not my comp
Yeah last resort is a format.
Had 780 in before this was fine.

Hmm dosent make any sense bro. Yep i would try the beast on another pc then u will 100% find out if ur pc is bad or the card :)
And guys i have found the email for the head of kfa
Im going to message him regarding this bios situation see what happens.....

For those that may still be undecided, here's some benchmarks for comparison :

Personally, I'm happy with the switch.

Good results. I imagine that you are happy with the switch for reasons more than just the scores, like me :)

hopefully ill have an update 2mo regarding the bios information

Then keep us posted please :)

Received my galax/kfa2 980, temps good, tests good, fan does not go below 52% even at sub 30c temps. So where is that mystical bios update that drops it to 30% at idle speeds?
As mentioned here:

http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/76361-galax-geforce-gtx-980-soc/

Our first impression was that the fans were running too quick, and Galax appears to agree - a BIOS update was made available this week that reduces idle fan speed from 50 per cent to 30 per cent. All three fans could, we feel, be turned off when idle with no detrimental effect, but we're told that a completely passive mode won't feature on this particular card.

Any info would be very useful to a lot of new kfa2 owners.

I didn't realise the difference between the 970 and 980 was ~25%. Quite surprised by that. I suppose that is a worthwhile upgrade.
I don't think it is that high, not in every day game usage etc. 15-20% is the figure I have seen many times, and that's probably more accurate. A benchmark isn't necessarily reflective of what you'll get in games, which will vary significantly.

The benchmark results are just a quick and easy indicator. A card that scores 2000 in any particular benchmark is clearly better than a card that scores 1000 for example (obvious statement, I know).

I could have spent the time running some in game benchmarks, but the outcome is already common knowledge.

The performance increase is more than marginal, but less than truly significant. For me, I know I have a better performing card, especially when you take the VRAM issue in to consideration. Plus, I've lost all the issues that come with SLI. I'll never go back SLI until nvidia decide to stop being lazy and get proper profiles coded, which will probably be never.

The best performing single card I can afford is what I want from now on, and it's what I've got with this 980.

I'm pleased with the outcome here, and once again a big thanks to ocuk and their customer service.

I have never wanted either X-Fire or SLI as both seem typically fraught with issues etc. A single card solution for me as always seemed the most elegant etc....

What I'm also pleased about is that unlike the 970...

....I can now fill the entire 4GB of memory....

I'm not completely happy with the situation, or with my choices, overall but the 980 GTX seemed at the time to be the preferred options that I considered.

String what do you get on the standard firestrike tests at stock with your CPU at stock as well? I'm just shy of 11k with everything at stock spec in sig.

Ok guys i have a reply from graham he has sent me a bios to flash apparently this is the 1 that fixes the fans.
He said to me not all kfa 980s where pre flashed before being retailed.
How do i post this 4 u guys..
And second can someone guide me through this flash process.
In the zip file he gave me is the bios file and something called nvflash

Wow so instead of sticking to the gtx970 and turning a setting down people are rewarding Nvidia even more. This is Apple level.
Maybe that BBC documentary was right after all.
