If this is true and if it comes soon via a driver update for mantle supported games, then wow

Though I'd imagine DX12 would be able to utilize this technology aswell?

This is very exciting if this is true.

*whispers* Some Nvidia peeps might get angry at this :D

That said, it would be great if DX12 had this implemented. No reason it shouldn't.

They have managed to fix a few issues lately, and the most important one that still exists being micro stutter.. i really don't think enough people are complaining about it because i've heard of no solution being worked on by either company.

Multi cards should be as smooth as a single card otherwise it defeats the purpose of having higher fps. It's 2015 and look how long we've been able to link more than 1 gpu but still no fix exists for the issue.

And yes "stacking vram" news has already been mentioned to work with both Mantle and DX12.

This is super old, this was touted when Mantle previewed, it's yet to make an appearance.

Crossfire support in Mantle stuff seems so-so anyway so far.

Huddy being Huddy.

As far as I understand it, the whole principle behind Mantle is to put control of what the GPU does more in the hands of developers, rather than relying heavily on DX and drivers. I remember it being mentioned that developers could arrange the GPU memory differently under Mantle so this combined VRAM could be achieved, but I really cannot see any developer putting the time and effort into getting this working for their game/engine unless they can get a substantial return for it.

At present, a few developers have released games that dip their toes into Mantle, which is great, but I haven't really seen any that appear to be putting their heart and souls into it. Last time I checked, Sniper Elite 3 doesn't have crossfire Mantle support, and the other Mantle games just emulate what they do in DX mode, but obviously perform better, rather than try anything radically different.

I love the concept behind Mantle and really hope it catches on and grows into the amazing tool it could be, but with the amount of money at stake in the games industry at present I can see what developers are playing it safe and sticking to DX/basic Mantle.

Fingers crossed for the future, as always. :)

I imagine the problem with shared ram is, at least in the case of amp r9 290's, is that the communication between cards happens over pcie, so that would be very slow no?

But yeah, mantle and crossfire is not good right now - for me at least. It seemed to be fine for a moment, but now it's constantly varying between being smooth and juddery.

Quite odd reallly.

I remember this being talked about at the start of all the Mantle hype. If it is possible, I am surprised we haven't seen it already but then again, it is AMD and they are not known for their speed on development :D

We have seen it.

CiV BE does it. :)

I'm not sure but i think BF4 may also have a Split Frame Rendering option.

Isn't it largely irrelevant though until you can utitlise > 1 cards capacity instead of being throttled. So Civ BE is a bit of a false example really.
