*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

Resorted to Ebay, there's a few on there now around 35-40.

I bought a copy off a member here for around the same price just before Christmas. Want to try and complete it before xenoblade X is released. I played some this Evening, and have enjoyed things so far. The voice acting and script is excellently cheezy. I love the way they say Monado! Without wanting to give any spoilers, I am at the point where shulk and reyn, are about to set off for colony 6.

Hi
Got a bit disillusioned with gaming at the moment, sold my pc gaming bits and now left with just my xbox one and apart from nba 2k15 i rarely play on it
Having had a gamecube at launch and loved it, i just bought one about 17th hand off ebay with luigi's mansion and mario kart :)
But been looking at the wiiu, and having never played a Zelda game (scandalous i know) was looking to pick one up if cheap enough to try wind waker and the new one

However are there any other games worth purchasing bear in mind i have an xbox one?
I would like smash bros but no ice climbers no deal haha

Also whats the deal with the controller? Do u have to stand and move about like a gym instructor to use it, or can games be solely played sat down with a controller

And don't forget virtual console games, and the fact that all original Wii games/controllers work on Wii U!

Just think of the Wii U GamePad like a regular controller... but with a screen in the middle of it. Very few games force you to use the screen but sometimes it is well utilized (e.g. on the fly inventory and map use in Wind Waker). It's great for playing games when the TV is in use too!. And no you don't need to stand up to use it... unless your playing Wii Sports Club Golf :p.

The vast majority of games can be played with the Wii U Pro Controller

I think i'm going to write up a 'guide to Wii U' :p.

Note that Zombi-U and Lego City Undercover are amongst the games that force you to use the control pad.

Zombi-U for example it's your inventory, the game doesn't pause whilst you're going through your stuff, or looting. VERY tense at times!

Lego City it's used as a scanner etc (so you actually lift it up and wave it around to see things as though you're the character scanning items etc)

In all honesty the Wii U is a great complimentary console with some great exclusives, and obviously the fact it doesn't cost a bomb helps. Also, whilst some crossformat games don't use it well, although it's not PS4/XboxOne level, its notably superior to the 360/PS3.

Yes a guide would be useful :)
So u can play the wiiu using the controller and not have to switch the tv over to it?

I genuinely didnt know it had that many exclusives..
Will have to look more into this, not that fussed about graphics, im all about the gameplay

With most games yes. There may be one or two that require you to go into options on the TV first, but in most cases you can play without use of the TV at all.

From the list of current exclusives I posted above: ZombiU, Wii Sports Club, Lego City and Nintendoland are the only ones that don't support off-tv play.

Depends on the game, but yes for a number of games, they start in 'TV' mode and then you can swap them to controller mode with a button press etc.

I'd use this functionality a lot more if the location the Wii U is in in my house allowed the controller to reach the bedroom, unfortunately though there's a lot of metal and one of the supporting walls in the way!

Only downside aside from potential range issues is that the screen in the controller isn't full HD; so it's not as nice as playing on your proper TV :)

And yes, the lack of info, decent marketing, 3rd party support and shop stock are the main reasons the Wii U isn't doing so well; if it was more prominent, I think a lot more people would have one; a lot of people I know who game don't realise or misunderstand the system.

Shame. Still hopefully Nintendo will learn from this machine; they are SLOWLY moving towards for example a better online ecosystem.

Also, be aware, if you're quick and lucky, there's some VERY cheap clearance deals on the WiiU around at places like Tescos, but rare as rocking horse **** now probably; so much so if you do go in, I'd ask the staff if they have any out back rather than expecting to find any on the shelves.

Thanks for the information
Ill do a read up, thought the console would be slightly cheaper (max is like £150) but ill keep a check on hukd etc
Not sure whether to get the basic or premium console?

Went into game earlier and they had like 2 shelves worth of wiiu stuff and that included accessories
Asked one member of staff in there and he said "this isnt next gen, and i would wait till nintendo announce something better, however if u do want a new console the xbox one section is too the left and ps4 to the right"
I walked out..

There are offers below that price. Think Smythes toys (not a competitor I don't think!) had them sub that, and Tescos were doing clearance deals sub £90 if you could find a console bundle in stock in store somewhere!!

And yes Game is generally overpriced. Only reason I've got my N3DS preordered there is I can go grab it on my lunch, and trade in my old 3DS at the same time.

Deffo keep an eye on HUKD, Wii U stuff comes up on there fairly regularly.

One has woefully poor storage ...

These are really the only differences ;)

^pretty much

Basic Pack contents
Premium pack contents

If you like to buy a lot of digital games(in preference to physical copies), then you'll likely need an external drive before long, regardless of the model you have.
If you plan to buy mostly physical games and the odd eShop exclusive title, then the 32GB may be enough, for a long while at least.

I have 7 eShop/indie games, 10 VC games and Metroid Prime Trilogy(Wii eShop download) installed on my 32GB and still have 7GB remaining. So I haven't needed to purchase an external drive, as I still prefer physical copies where possible. I also don't mind deleting a game if i know I won't be playing it for a while (can always download it again later).

Thanks for the info guys (or girls u never know)
Very much appreciated
Think i will get the mario kart premium pack for £199 because i want that game so me and the missus can play

I've updated the list of recommended Wii U games in the post above. If anyone has any suggestions of games to add let me know, I'll keep updating the post.
I'll add a list of upcoming games at some point too.
