I wish they would hurry up and release them, perfect opportunity at the moment with the 970's being returned (especially in the US with much higher returns), those who upgraded to a 980 would have maybe thought twice if there was a new AMD offering.

The Chat still says Q2, so that's April earliest I think mate. With a bit of luck the specs are being leaked/drip fed to all the sites to there may be a fair idea of that's coming sooner.

380's seem to be the first out the door, 980 performance with 4gb vram reading around.

Another 4gb card, pffft, make it 8gb and add £50 on top, with all the vram talk you would think amd would capitalise with more memory than 4gb.

I would rather they came with more Vram, but I'm sure they will release 8GB cards for extra money to compete with GM200, which should have 6GB minimum.

If they intend to raise the clocks to battle the 980, then it is not a rebadge. They need at least 1200mhz for that.

Of course it is, sticking an overclock on it doesn't make it new silicon. Manufacturing processes improve all the time but if AMD haven't actually modified the core or changed process to a smaller one it's a rebadge in all but marketing.

I only brought it up because I remember how much **** NVidia used to get for doing it and it's funny how AMD fanboys change their tune when AMD jump aboard.

The way I read it is a refreshed 290/290x to rival the GTX 980. So i'll expect these to be close in Benchmarks and not a run away sucess.

Then the real new card with be Q3/Q4 of this year.

390 and above is the new chip.

380 and 380x are clearly refreshes, that's all they need to be if they can outperform the 970 and 980 for less.

Depending on the cost of the refreshes, might be tempted to move from my 7970 crossfire set up.

If they are still volcanic i'll bite the bullet and go for SLi 980's.

Wooowhoo calm down! Some one is getting big green and mean here!

Can't see any "fanboys" changing their tune right here. Just some one giving their opinion.

And both sides do it, rebadges. TBH you don't know if it is a rebadge or not, you dont know what they have changed/tweaked. IMO its only a rebadge if they take the same card with no modifications and change the name. This isn't what they have said they have done, so more a refresh! However we will not know for sure untill its released.

This is just forum speculation. Not news! Stop acting like it's an AMD press release.

If you squint you will see the link to the source. Some obscure kraut site. And THEIR source is a forum. Once again tech journalists spewing.

A 290/X bios flash will inform the masses if it's a rebadge or not, will see what official spec(if they are genuine:p) is before jumping the gun.

Not many 290X could do 1200 on 24/7 basis. Most chips couldn't even go up to 1200, and the ones that could needed raised voltage, and good cooling. My Lighting did, thanks to the awesome cooler, but that was an exceptionally chip, i benched at 1280 on air with it.

So no they can't just raise the clocks without doing nothing if they want it to fight the 980. 1200 is the minimum base clock they need, and the hawaii can not do that on every chip. Also they haven't just rename the cards to 380/X, they renamed the chip to Grenada from Hawaii, so its clearly a new rev.
