Anyone want this?

I've bought hundreds of PC parts used from the MM, Gumtree, even eBay over the years, and I have actually never had a single problem! :)

I've even bought refurbished watercooling kits and hard-drives, 10 year old PSU's, GPU's which have been mined with, and so on. As well as faulty GPU's which have re-flowed fine, and motherboards with bent pins which have been a doddle to fix.

I know to a certain extent this is down to luck, but it does also indicate that you might not need to worry so much. ;)

You would buy a used car from someone you don't know wouldn't you? That is more of a risk.

This is true, I'm seriously thinking about looking into getting my watercooling bits second hand, it's looking to be very expensive so far!

I've never had any luck with anything like that though, it's typical, i'd buy something second hand and it wouldn't work, the seller be a right pain.

Sadly, I'm ages away from getting access to MM :(

You need to integrate more forum time into your day to day routine, a bit like people with no life, such as myself. *looks at own post count* :D

I'd give you some of my posts if I could. :p

I have heard plenty of horror stories about eBay purchases of PC parts, so I am generally very wary when buying from eBay. I only buy, on the rare occasion that I do, from sellers with very high feedback (98% or over) who have sold lots of items in the past, and you can get a feel for the person from the description. If it is brief and uninformative then I avoid it. Or if the person has taken a picture of a motherboard on the carpet, or a graphics card in their hand with their fingers on the contacts, I avoid it, because it suggests that they don't know to take care of/just don't care about their hardware.

In my current PC my CPU, 2 RAM sticks, GPU, PSU, SSD, case and sound card are from the members market, the HDD's and 2 RAM sticks were bought new, the watercooler was bought refurbished from OcUK, and the motherboard came from eBay.

I literally sit on this forum from when i get home from work/college whatever i have that day and just read. I don't have the knowledge yet to comment on most things as yet. I'm learning though and quickly too!
I even browse when i'm supercruising in Elite.

I take a lot of time when thinking about buying something on eBay. But then I'm quite sad and like new stuff but like i said, I can't justify spending so much money on a WC loop so i'll have a look about, find the parts i roughly want then go second hand hunting!

Aww, how generous of you! ;)

My current PC is brand new from here. Absolutely everything! My box collection is getting too big now

I suppose i've always thought of Ebay as a place where the rule is Buyer Beware!

I've almost always bought brand new stuff, cause of warranties etc and i like shiny new stuff :) Since just before HL2's release and up until now i've only actually had 3 different PC's. The one i'm about to replace is only a year old but has driven me nuts. Was fine to begin with, actually very good but now just gets on my nerves.

Not sure how much i'd use the MM, going to be about another 3 years before i get access at this rate :) I know most people are very good but i'm still quite wary of used stuff. Not sure why really!

I think me getting MM would just mean i spend even more money building computers I don't actually need because i just enjoy it. Every member in my family would have a PC built by me because it's good fun.

I do this a lot just browse round reading posts and occasionally comment if I feel I can offer some advise or assistance. I've been on the forum for 10 years and at this rate ill be in my 70's before I get access to the members market! On a side note I've always bought stuff from OcUk since they were in Longton down the tunnel :)

Yeah, it's quite annoying, i wish i could go into real depth like some of the other guys but it just goes in one hear and out the other some times!

I've only just started posting, since like the end of November so I'm doing alright. I've always wanted to keep up to date with PC's so i signed up ages ago just to read.

Also I'm really in the market for a second Sapphire R9 290 OC Tri-X for crossfire and I bet I could pick a second hand one up in good nick for a good price from here rather than risking the 'bay.

annoyingly I've got a mate who worked at my old job who is on here all the time and has a massive post count because he comments on the fifa thread all the time...

Yeah same here, there is another of my card on the bay at the moment untested. I'm quite tempted to buy it, it's worth the gamble if it pays off!

Haha, yeah that is annoying.

Yeah to be fair all my stuff is new, but I'm not adverse to buying second hand, just not usually for my main PC . I have a lot of PCs, my wife counted up and said 20 is too many and told me to get rid of some, so i put them in the loft! problem solved :)

Yeah I know I was just kidding about that ;)

20 PC's!?!? You can only use 1 at a time!

I thought if you were a member before the MM reg change, you were subject to the old rules and not the new ones.

A tip of the hat to older, less vocal members.

Or did that change?

im sure the old rules were 100 posts but i was no where near that when the rules changed :(

And Thanks Threepwood :)
