BF Hardline - AMD cards getting panned (not by much)

The FPS difference isn't big enough to say AMD are getting panned. The 980 costs £150-200 more than some 290x cards at the moment.

The frame times surprised me though, I thought the AMD cards would be better.

Pretty sure it is mantle game but either way its hard to judge a beta for performance.

When its released and drivers are released for it, then you can judge the best card to buy.

AMD GPU Performance

There is a big difference currently in the gameplay experience between NVIDIA GPUs and AMD GPUs in Battlefield Hardline. This comes down to what we have tested as the frame times. For whatever reason AMD GPUs are doing very poorly in terms of frame time in this game. There are large peaks of longer periods of time between frames. There is wild inconsistency, and a general higher frame time average than with NVIDIA GPUs.

This translates into the game feeling choppy even though the frame rates are high on AMD GPUs. It affects every AMD GPU we tested, Radeon R9 290X, Radeon R9 290 and Radeon R9 285. It affects every map we played, the larger maps like Dust Bowl were the worst. This is a dramatic and devastating detriment to gameplay on AMD GPUs. As it is right now, NVIDIA GPUs simply offer smoother gameplay in Battlefield Hardline

There is one month until release of this game. AMD right now has the opportunity to improve gameplay on its video cards by the time the game releases. Otherwise, there will be a lot of complaints from AMD video card users.

AMD not so good in this game it seems. Blame nVidia?

LOL
You can NOT bench a Beta and also a game that has so Random plays.. Not one walk through will be the same.

Here how my run on Bank job played - Frame rate could be much better, I noticed with the game the CPU was getting bad performance resulting in lower frame rate!

For a beta performance was much better than I expected!

I was getting them frame rates on a single 290x.. I never had any problems with it and thought the FPS was alright.

I'm fairly sure this is a Mantle game but i doubt they'd put it into a Beta would they?

Why can't you?

Ohhhh, I know, because AMD are **** in it :D

It's Beta, i'm sure it'll get sorted before release.

I played Hardline at the weekend, it just looks like some new crappy BF4 game modes... Did not really enjoy it. I think i'll stick to an actually battlefield game.

You'll need to buy an Nvidia card to play this game!

Same as the BF4 beta where folk screamed you'll need an i7 to play it.

It's a beta - based on Brokenfield 4. The CTE of Hardline played better than this Beta.

Wont help sales for visceral with poor optimisation for AMD cards.

No even still them results very little in it I would expect anyone here would even notice!

My point ins't about the results at all..

Struggling to see what you are saying here? The guy said how choppy it felt on all AMD cards

Of course it is Beta and not the final release and I am sure AMD will get this running reasonably well in time.

Hardline beta plays far far smoother for me then Bf4, with the graph thing up my green gpu line is constantly flat, though the cpu line is going a little nuts the overall feel is very nice.

Averaging around 100fps, 1440, ultra 4xmsaa

At 1440p it is clear 4GB of VRAM is preferred. In all three maps the usage of VRAM peaked just over 3GB on each video card at 1440p with 4X MSAA and "Ultra" settings. We think if you tried to use a 3GB video card it would definitely hit that capacity and no room for advancement or overflow. You'll note the actual MB did exceed 3GB, so 3GB is just barely enough. However, none really exceeded 3.1GB. However, we don't know how the other maps will behave in the full version so 4GB is your safe bet.

Not for 970 then :o

Is the beta still open? I'll measure usage tonight, was humming along fine full ultra 1440 for me with my 3gb 780's.

I only played the Alpha and it looked and felt like BF4 DLC, so I didn't bother with the Beta and probs won't get the game...Unless a few of the MLG guys get it of course.

Still, looks like it runs pretty well for nVidia users, even at this stage, so a plus to Visceral
