Do you arrive early/stay late at work?

I read this article this morning and it got me questioning my own situation:
http://www.businessinsider.com/reas..._source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer&IR=T

I typically arrive 1 hour before anyone else in the office for multiple reasons: I'm up early anyway, there's always loads needing done, I like an early start and I live 15 minutes from work, if I leave early enough I can beat the traffic, if not the journey can turn into 40 minutes of stop-start motorway torture.

However, there are downsides. Nobody really notices and things get done quicker(I'll occasionally stay later too) when they should really take longer and be budgeted accordingly.

Thoughts?

When my workload goes up I go in at least 30 mins early and leave 30 mins + late. Working with US people means they go in 30 mins before my normal finish time, so it's best if I can stay in for a call etc.

I get paid overtime, and sometimes rewarded for my hard work, so I would think they notice!

I used to work for a company where it was the 'done thing' to get in an hour early and you felt bad to be the first person to leave.

I now run a company with two employees and we have a pretty strict hours policy. Get in 10 minutes before you start to put the kettle on, no more, and leave at 5.

I sometimes arrive early but rarely stay late as it takes about 2.5hrs to get home. Usually only stay late in times of crisis or if I'm saying in London overnight.

I'm usually in 20 minutes early but I talk to people, eat (more) breakfast and do a bit of work. It's give and take where I work though as I often take extended lunches or go home a bit early.

I used to work at a place where every day I would be in 20 or 30 minutes early, take short lunches if it was busy etc. and then one day I needed to leave 20 minutes early to pick something up and my boss wouldn't let me go. From that day on I always took a 1 hour lunch and arrived and left bang on the dot. I could tell he was annoyed but didn't care as he was a total ****** - make up the best word you like.

Normally at work half an hour early. The past couple of weeks I've been working till like 8 at the earliest really..so yes :(

I get there early, 7pm, but i'm the first to go home at usually 5 sometimes 6. I noticed when i was a kid so i'm assuming my kids notice just the same.

I arrive about 5 minutes early and depart exactly at 5pm.
The odd time I've needed to stay over for 10 minutes I just come in later the following morning.

I work flexi time. I get paid for what I work. As long as I make it in before 10am all is good. It's about the only reason I've not left the public sector yet...

Anyway - Business Insider? It's vacuous click bait really, not proper journalism.

I stay late when required. Never really in early, not a morning person for work at all.

I once worked in a place where they expected you to start 15mins earlier than you were paid for to ensure 'smooth' shift changes, you couldn't go home 15mins earlier though...

One day I was late due to a car crash which stopped the traffic, they docked me and a few others caught up in the traffic an hours pay for being 10-15mins late (Company Policy), which of course was nullified because 'Officially' none of us were due to start work until 15mins later anyway, I politely brought it up to the CEO and was told 'Tough ****.'

So I phoned ACAS and started a group Industrial Tribunal proceeding, which funnily enough made the CEO instantly change his mind and also end the start 15mins early idea a few weeks later.

Contracted hours are 8 - 4.30, most days I'm in before 7am and will leave around 7pm. Get paid for it and the work needs to be done...some days its worse (7am - 9-10pm), some days its better (7am - 5pm). Average anywhere from 50 to 90 hours OT a month.

It does help I enjoy the job and the people I work with, if I didn't like it I'd be last in first out.

No extra pay, so don't stay late, unless something really needs doing and can't wait.
Always arrive between 8:50-9:10, which is the usual time for everyone else too, no one gets in before then.

Usually try and get out at some point in the afternoon for a brew of costa or something lol.

I don't work in an environment where early in/late out would be expected, encouraged or rewarded. In fact it would probably raise some questions around competency and time management.

I am hardly ever early. I like my bed far too much.

I do tend to work on after my time (unpaid) though if I want to get something finished or to just tidy up so that the next day is a fresh start.

It's not like I have a life outside work on a weekday anyway..
Get up - eat breakfast - go to work - come home - cook tea - talk to you lot - got to bed. Rinse and repeat in winter at least.
