I would say in the last 12 months products wise NVidia have been a huge disappointment.
Their 9 series although good at 1080p can not beat old AMD cards @2160p
The GTX 970 fiasco is a shocker of their tech team taking short cuts.
If I was a teched up investor I would be saying that NVidia are actually skimping on R & R and just sitting on their laurels taking the money. This is a very short sighted approach.
I can see NVidia getting into some serious trouble and losing a lot of market share if they don't come up with some real highend cards (Maxwell Titan does not count as it will be too expensive) in the next 12 months.
I wander if the a market that can be charged $1000 > $2000 for a consumer graphics card will one day eventually turn on them.
The milking is almost out of control, Titan Z was just awful lol.
Hopefully a die shrink (Eventually) will finally give us some progression in performance VS price at all levels, low - mid - high end..
let's hope AMD bring it with the 390X and force Nvidia to start making a bigger leap in performance. It's a lot like David and Goliath though.. Or a midget being held at arms length whiles being punched in the face..
Hopefully the underdog will have it's day though. It would be great for the market..
Or even better, a third player..
Because there is no competition to push them, so they do not have to.
They are not here to make us happy, they are here to make money and they are. That is business unfortunately.
*Please note I am not defending anything, just pointing out the facts as I see them.
Same **** with Intel drip feeding us, blame AMD.![]()
There is competition (not AMD) and NVidia are in great danger of getting caught out.
With the consoles ports that are turning up now that demand loads of VRAM even @1080p it makes even the GTX 980 obsolete. Console ports may or may not be badly written but they are not going to go away.
I also suspect there are technical reasons why we have not seen 8gb 980s. I suspect if NVidia tried it there would be problems similar to some of the ones seen on the 970 but worse.
I think NVidia are actually 12 months behind the game (no pun intended) and could find their range of cards are unsuitable soon for serious gaming.
I think they are sat waiting for AMD to show the up and coming line up and at that point we will see how they react. Nvidia need do nothing at the moment as it would only detract from the 970/80 sales of which I can imagine they are making a fortune. Let's hope AMD does drop a bombshell on them as it would give the sector the kick up the arse it needs.
For as little as AMD spends on R&D, they sure as hell get a lot of miles out of what they do R&D. Mantle, HBM, APUs etc etc. Nvidia lost out on their HMC variant, and now have moved to HBM, the superior next gen memory platform. And yea like Kaap hinted, they will be behind in 2015 since AMD will have a years lead on HBM.
I wish both vendors would hurry up and announce some info on new cards never mind release them. Gpu market is too stale at present. Hence why i like many others have decided to stick with the golden oldies i have, (though wish they were 6gb models). Theres simply nothing of note currently worth looking at. AMD are getting by on the 290 series, nvidias 900 range whilst, impressive on the efficiency/noise/heat levels arent a worthwhile improvement over the older cards.
Yep, something to whet the appetite. Though with tri sli titan id suspect you could get by on those for a good bit to come. Myself, id like a single card solution that is close to 780 sli on the grunt front, but with a vram count of higher than 4gb. As seen with a few recent games released, 4gb is soon gonna be an issue at 1080p let alone 1440, (4k, havin a laugh)Agreed Rob. Even if I don't jump, I still want something new out to at least give something to tease me, AMD or nVidia I am not fussed, just something that is worthwhile please.

But it doesnt bode well for future titles.
How do they get a lot of miles out of what they do? They are posting losses each year and this is why they have cut R&D (so less money on future products) and it will only get worse. Why has it taken them over a year to get Freesync out (which still isn't out)? Mantle was supposed to have a public SDK in 2014 but nope, still nothing.
Even with HBM being a fantastic selling point for AMD, I am willing to bet that nVidia somehow manage to get something out that still entices customers.
This is not a dig by the way and just the way I see it. I really want AMD to do well. Competition is great but they seem intent on trolling forums more than sorting the future.
