Just 0.7 per cent - or £1.2bn - of total benefit expenditure in 2012/13 was overpaid due to fraud. This compares with £5bn a year that the government loses through tax avoidance.
The government doesn't "lose" anything due to tax avoidance, because they are not entitled to it. The may, and do, lose money to evasion.
Yes but benefit fraudsters should be hung, or at the least sterilised according to some on the forum, whilst tax avoidance is to be celebrated...

Once again, the dividing line is not as clear as you suggest. Many instances of 'avoidance' are actually 'evasion' -- they just haven't been looked into by the authorities.
Haha, so Lord Fink challenged Ed Milliband to repeat his accusation of Fink being a tax avoider outside of the house of commons and he would sue him...
So Ed does repeat it today and Fink immediately backs down saying, 'well everyone does it and what I did was at the vanilla, bland end of the scale'
Priceless![]()
At the same time Ed still manages to make himself look like an idiot with his "when I said dodgy Tory donors I didn't mean that Tory donor was dodgy" climb down.
Miliband has got some brass neck calling out others for tax avoidance given he engaged in practices to limit his tax liability.
Haha yea, though Cameron made just as much a fool of himself when he ignored the calls to support his donor and just walked off. To be fair to Milliband though, looking like an idiot is his default position![]()
As they are all at it I doubt they really want anyone to dig too deep.![]()
The Tories are not going to win.It does seem that the best way for the Conservatives to win is to say nothing and let Labour keep shooting themselves in the foot. "What colour what you like you Get Women Voting van?" "Patronising pink please, we all know the ladies love pink!"
