Well, I've never owned an Intel setup and with the way my luck is going with AMD i feel its time to switch sides!

My current setup is below:

Motherboard: M5A78L-M/USB3
Memory: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
CPU: AMD FX8350 8 Core Processor

And the intel Setup I was looking at is:

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 Intel Z97
Memory: Kingston HyperX 16GB (2x8GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz

Parts that i will keep from current build so dont need:

PSU: Corsair CS750M Gold+
SSD: Crucial 240GB M500 SSD
Case: Antec 900
Graphics Card: GTX470 Twin Frozr

I do have a R9 290 which I am yet to RMA as they are claiming it works fine so was hoping to test it in my new system.

Is it worth the money to upgrade? Or could anyone recommend better bang for buck for around 500 for mobo/RAM/CPU?

Thanks.

Do you edit/video render etc or just game and if so what games? Imo it wouldn't have been worth the upgrade, but each to their own :) and I suppose it does increase upgradeability/longevity into the future

Good news, set everything up and refreshed windows and its running like a dream!Never had any issues in a 6 hour straight gaming session. There's not much more in terms of top performance but what i have noticed is the lower end performance in games has improved. Less FPS drops and overall smoothness in swapping between games etc.

Just need to try the R9 290 in tonight and hopefully will be grinning ear to ear all the way!

Nice one Smallz welcome to intel I have both comps but my amd was relegated to the media pc after getting the intel, I do find intel just works more smoother

Me too, just seems a lot more stable than the 8350 in terms of performance.

Put the R9 290 in and its working like a beast! Getting around 450-500 FPS on CSGO on ultra etc. Using it on Arma 3 on ultra and its pretty awesome.

Do need some advice though. I bought the card from another supplier and 2 different machines i tried it in it kept crashing. It seems to have been unable to be used with older motherboards as its now working.

The issue is ive done a chargeback on my credit card and got the money back for the card and told the seller to pick it up. They wont pick it up and want me to post it but I dont want to pay more for the card to send back.

I now have the money back and the card but ideally i would like to keep the card as its now working. Should i mention to my cc company that I want to keep it and get money back or speak to supplier?

Unless you are Going to game in higher resolution then 1080p. The 8350 with a half decent card is more then enough. The 290 will work very well the 8350.. But if the upgrade bug has taken hold i7 all the way..
