Free Firewalls

Why? No problems at all. You do realise your router has a built in firewall as well for the outside?

Unless you want some major control over what is allowed access to the outside, you don't need any sort of software firewall now days. Your router will already be NAT enabled and will be a better firewall than any software on your network side.

I don't really know! I was told many years ago don't use Window firewall! What one do you guys use?

You don't really know, if you're not going to use something at least know why, anyway I use the windows one and the hardware firewall in the router, don't need anything else

I use Comodo as I like to have control over outgoing connections (trojans, gotta love 'em) but unless you're particularly looking for complete control over outgoing traffic then you really don't need one as routers have them built in. Once upon a time when I had a USB modem the PC had to have a firewall installed as there was no other but these days its all handled by the router.

i learned that the hard way back on windows2000. it was wrecked within minutes of going online. :p

even the firewall built into XP was good enough - one slight problem was that MS disabled it by default which allowed worms to spread like wildfire.

I use the windows firewall and never had any issues with it.

apart from that i don't use anything else, router has a built in firewall as well
