Headphone wire length reduction

What is the best way of reducing my headphone wire length? Cutting and soldering on a new jack or removing the whole cable from the cans and installing a new/better cable.

There Panasonic HTF600's for the record and come with about 10ft of cable. I only need around.. 3.5ft or so

Probably better off getting a short cable and swapping them out, that way if you want a longer one again, you've got one to hand. As it will require soldering no matter which way you go, there is nothing in it difficulty wise.

You could try braiding the cable to suit:

Just make sure not to make the braid too tight to prevent permanent damage to the cable.

On the thoughts of a shorter cable.. If i did that and made the original cable into an extension for it what quality loss is there for doing this

as long as it's good quality cable you won't get any reduction in sound quality.

And as long as your soldering skills are good so as to not create bad contacts in both headphone end, and extension socket end.
