I can only say about what I use and it is the X52, which is really good for me. I can't see how it could be better?

I'd go with an X52, I've heard of people having problems with the X55

Also yeah - it's downloadable :)

Thanks for your replies, is that the "Saitek X52 PRO" you guys are recommending or the x52? Cheers.

I think any variant of the X52 will be fine, I use a warthog hotas, but my friend has the standard X52 and it's really good,

I think the only difference with the pro is that it has some nicer bits (metal triggers and other bits) which might make it feel a bit better, but either one should be good.

I have the bog standard £100 X52. Does everything I could wish for and so many configurable buttons, not much else needed as I see it.

Bit more information on the upcoming wings 1.2 update:

http://www.pcgamer.com/elite-dangerous-12-preview-flying-together-with-wings/

Sounds good to me, quite like the idea that it's going to be restricted to four players at a time, will have to see how well it works in practise though :)

Cheers for that and I look forward to it. I have been more a single player type person but it would be nice to join up with a couple of peeps from time to time to take down some scum :D

Had a decent stint on it tonight running cargo and picking up black boxes/rebel transmissions etc (now I know how to complete them! :D Thanks again Gregster!)

Built myself up to just under 90k so I'm thinking of upgrading to a hauler which, I'm hoping, will then enable me to take on more profitable missions!

However, before I do I wondered if anyone could answer me a few questions?

1) Does it matter where I purchase a new ship from? (ie. are they different prices or all the same as long as there is a shipyard?)

2) Do I need to be doing any upgrades before I leave dock or will the stock ship do the business from the off?

3) How does the insurance work? I've read about having to buy your ship back if it's destroyed - how do I find out how many credits I need to leave in reserve and are there different levels of cover?

4) What happens to my Sidewinder if I get another ship? Does it stay at the station where I swap?

5) How do trades with "Seeking Goods/Luxuries" work? I've flown close to one but couldn't figure out how to initiate a trade!?! (although I don't think I had any cargo at the time - maybe this was why??)

Thanks guys......

1) Ship prices are they same at all stations (as far as I've seen), except the Founder's World.

2) A stock ship will be just fine, although a lot of good upgrades can be had quite cheaply. Class D components weigh the least. Remember to check your fire groups in your right hand panel.

3) Every Cmdr automatically has insurance. To see how much you need to pay back if your ship is destroyed, have a look at your right hand panel in your ship (first tab). Don't leave a station without enough cash to cover insurance! No different levels of cover, although if you die and can't afford all of the insurance, you can choose not to buy back certain upgrades. If you can't afford anything, you go back to the stock Sidewinder. A loan of (I believe) up to 200k can be optionally taken if you can't afford insurance, and is paid back plus 10%.

4) When you buy another ship you have two choices. Either you store your current ship at the station you're buying the new ship from and pay the full value of the new ship, or you trade in your current ship which then reduces what you pay for your new ship.

5) Seeking Luxuries - you need to buy 'performance enhancers' at a station, and then turn up at the luxury traders. Once you're within a certain distance, they automatically remove the cargo from your hold and pay you.

Happy flying :D

There are occasional sales available on Ships, some stations were giving 10% off a few weeks ago and it was advertised on Galnet.. but normally its all the same price.

For info..and as the Conflict Zone goal is finished soon: I had not been to a Resource Extraction Zone since this last update but I went to try it yesterday. Mostly it was all small ships with the wanted tag (Cobra/Eagle/Sidey) but with no active missions for Pirates and just using my KWS I clocked up around 250k in main faction bounty and another 60k+ for local factions. That was in 1 hour only.

I think they must have boosted the bounties somewhat as I never remember getting these kind of numbers..

I redeemed my pitiful reward at yembo last night and thought I would check out the 5% discount on all outfitting, while I was there I checked out the price of an Anaconda and it was 138 mil which appears to be 5% of the normal price so dont right of your the discount you guys are getting so soon, some one said they got a 20% discount from a conflict zone mission if I remember correctly so would add up to 30 mil for an anaconda (if they have one at the station) not to be sniffed at!

Go with the X52, search for youtube videos on how to mod it. This improves the X52 from being very good to stunning. If you can use a screwdriver you can do the mods its really that simple.

I found the answer to my problem of being unable to assign the Yaw and lateral thrust independently to each stick, and am rather ashamed to admit, it was an easy fix

From the Frontier boards:

"You need to make sure the home button on the Hotas X (marked with a picture of a house) is showing a green LED and NOT red.

The red LED means that the stick twist and throttle rocker are linked. A green LED means they are independent axes and may be assigned to different functions."

Something so frustrating yet so bloody simple but, I honestly had no clue. It finally works :D

I will have a butchers for that at some stage but in honesty, it does exactly what I need, so I doubt I would change anything. It did take a while to get used to the button layout and I used someone else's ED profile, which seems to work very well for me.

The only thing I need now is a Oculus Rift and I am set for a bit :D

In other news....Anyone else finding they are getting interdicted a lot? Maybe just me being unlucky but seems like every jump and travel to the station, I got interdicted at least once (mt last jump was 3 interdictions). All NPC one's and very annoying, as one of them damaged my hull to the tune of 400K repairs :(

It seems to happen if you have no weapons.

Last night I was flying around trying to sell my stuff at a diff station, so I could go back and re-buy my guns for 20% discount, as soon as I went into SC without any weapons, I got interdicted about 3 times by sidewinders and eagles.

Also pro-tip to avoid damage;

When someone interdicts you - submit immediately (throttle to zero) because you submit your FSD will cool down much quicker, and you can re-engage SC in a few seconds and normally get out of there before you take any damage at all,.

(sorry if teaching to suck eggs :D )

Yer, I learnt the hard way that it is better to just submit and I always throttle back to 0. Just now and then, even with doing that, I still get damage (probs 1/20 times).

Even if throttling to 0, still face the exit wibbly-wobbly swirly thing.
If you come out at a 45° angle, can still take damage.

Apparently, from reading reddit/ED forums etc.

Yep all the time now its really annoying I mentioned it on here last week and someone told me its normal but it only happened to me after last weeks patch......

As I am a solo only player for now it seems odd to get interdicted & some of the ships interdicting are seriously overpowered one destroyed me with a few shots before I could escape but I did not have any cargo at the time.

Yes, when last played this the past weekend, was getting tons of interdictions, which ultimately ended up with me getting blown up and losing a lot of money.

Well, I have been playing for the last 3/4 hours (I need to get a life) and every single jump has resulted in an interdiction. I am in Empire territory and trading Palladium/Imperial slaves and I am unfriendly to the Empire, so could be that but been here many times before under the same circumstances and never had it like this.

I wouldn't mind if the NPC ships played by our rules but they are just appearing on the scanner and an immediate interdiction.
