just ordered a GTX 460 as a temp solution so i can play Assetto Corsa while i consider what to do.

I'm not after anything mind blowing just a mid range ish gaming system

More RAM would be good.

Do you have a 64bit OS? what PSU do you have? have you tried overclocking the CPU? maybe add an SSD.

Cancel the 460 and get yourself a 970 or 290 and a SSD and upgrade the RAM to 8 GB. You'll need to reinstall Windows if you're running 32 bit Windows 7.

You'll be able to carry over the SSD and the GPU to your next system.

Depending how much he got the GTX 460 he might aswell get it, if it cost him no more than £30 that is. Adding some extra RAM up to 4GB would be decent also. After that it is time for a complete upgrade.

Not really. That i5 is still classed as a high-end CPU and really, for games the GPU matters more. Sure a new CPU will be better, but it's quite likely the i5 750 is good enough, and if it isn't, the OP will be able to transfer the new components to a new system.

PSU is 550w 32 bit

I have considered an ssd are they worth the £££ now they have come down abit?

460 was only £34 looking to replace it with a 960 or 970 in the next 3 or 4 months it really was just so I can run assetto corsa

So after that point it's really time to build a new system rather than spend money on ram etc which I cant transfer over?

Thanks for the help guys I'll buy a few bits over the next few months SSD prob a gtx 960 then build a few system in the summer

Out of interest if I was to buy ram for this system then transfer it over to my next system most likely an i7 would it pull the whole thing down? As in would it be the weak point of the system?
