Is it me or is Facebook now spamming notifications of birthdays? I get them every single day. I'm just surprised they would make this change as it's rather annoying and you could always see who had a birthday anyway.

A strong candidate for thread of the year.

Delete a large portion of your Facebook friends to solve this problem.

Haha yes, but I like having acquaintances on facebook - I have previously survived spam by removing all non-core (or non-interesting) individuals from my newsfeed, so this wasn't an annoyance before.

It's barely an annoyance now, but it's a weird change to make.

This us a great idea I've more than halved mine. Every now and again I have a mass deletion it's usually based on moaning and or posting continuously about your dog / cat / relationships

Turn them off then. The notifications I mean, not your friends.

Could make it fun when you try to turn them on though!

But I know what you mean OP. Does **** me off, but I just flick it away, along with the other notifications that pop up daily. "Your Daily UK News is ready", "Random guys birthday", "Another helpful document on blackboard", etc..

Indeed :p.

I do a monthly clear to keep it at around 50, I simply don't know the rest enough to want to see constant updates about their life.

Just as an FYI you can have friends on Facebook and see no updates from them at all by removing them from your newsfeed.

Press the X next to the notification when you browse Facebook on your laptop/desktop.
It comes up with a message that asks if you want to turn off these notifications.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

You can disable them as mentioned.

But I will agree it was a bit annoying to change. Fair enough popping them up on the right hand side of the screen to tell you, but actually giving you notifications to say it was X's birthday got somewhat annoying.

It's done this for years?

I think it used to be just mentioned to the side of the news feed, now the default is you actually get a notification alerting you to it, which also pops up on your phone etc... if you have the FB app on there etc..
