Rough price of the 390X

Which ever next gen card that is not a rehash of an older product will get my money, whoever it is that releases a card first that's around £400 that easily beats my 780 I will be getting.

So for me the question is 'who is going to be quicker to release one'. And the answer will not be known for quite a while I reckon, which is a shame.

Would the 380/380x still retain the 512 bit bus though?

Surely will make them pricey for 2nd tier cards?

Though I am no expert on the matter, and just guessing it adds a lot of cost.

I still dont get it why ppl say that the 380x is a rebrand in the rumours. If they are competing the 980 as in the rumours, then they are around 20% faster than a 290x hence they are mdified chips just as the new name (hawaii->grenada) shows.

Not to fussed until something can Ultra UHD @60fps with some kind of FreeSync/GSync is the only time I will upgrade, the R9 290 is a monster for the price that can run anything @1440. I like saving money with these very slow releases.

My sensible head loves that my 2 x 7970s still run pretty much anything at 1440p and they've been great value for money. My geek head is screaming for something new which with a single card will blow the socks of my 7970s. Don't really care who makes it, green or red, it's something I spend money to buy, not a lifestyle choice, just hurry up and do something interesting kplzthx... :)

Because the rumours are that it is essentially the same chip as a 290x but clocked higher, if so then overclocking headroom may be compromised, so it'll look better in stock vs stock reviews, but from an enthusiasts point of view it wont offer much in terms of an actual upgrade

Thing is few 290X clocks 20% higher (1200-1250mhz-ish) to compete with the 980 performance, on usable voltage, and they need this speed if they didn't change anything else.
You simply cannot just bump the clock that high on 290X chips, because half of them cannot do it for 24/7 usage.

So the modifications on the chip are at least some to let it go higher clocks with lower voltage, but i wouldn't be surprised if there will be some other new features from the Tonga chip as well.

In short: capable of running at speeds few 290Xs can, and have a new name = modified chip = not a rebadge.

Same boat as me, apart from id not go green team, red team ftw.

Im bored of my 7950's also, one of thems on the blink and cba to edit the bios, just running them at full pelt 1200/1600, ill soon find out which one it is that's giving up once it dies. then the good one ill put in my missus rig as shes got a 2900XT and that plays everything she wants, so a single 7950 is overkill for her. and by then ill have a shiney 390x. that's the plan anyway!
