Hi all,

Due an upgrade and was considering the following:

i7-4790K
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-539-IN

Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16gb http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-384-CS

Asus Maximus VII Ranger http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BG-782-AS

I have all other components (see sig). I just need advice on the above choices and a new psu.

Casual gamer and photoshoper and Web design but like a classy and powerful pc. :-p

1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£15 Saving + Gigabyte Free Upgrade ** £403.98
1 x Kingston HyperX Savage Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX324C11SRK2/16) £95.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £49.99
Total : £559.56 (includes shipping : £8.00).

PSU wise, single card 550w will be fine, 2 cards grab a 750w.
Board comes with 5 years warranty and free replacement to the next socket within 3 years.

Thanks for those. Do you think the motherboards are better choices? Also will the memory fit beside current graphics card and possible upgrade?

The processor is the best you can get for that socket.

A cooler would be good, check it fits in your case (although the ATCS840 is massive so you can pout anything in there).

Your other cheaper option is to find a 2600K/2700K.

Kinda agree with this tbh, a 26/700k will be a nice interim upgrade. With skylake coming later this year on a new socket I don't see much point in buying into Z97.

They are an i7 and 4core+hyperthreading just like the 4790K is.

As they can be had for £110'ish they are a good option. Overclock them on your board (4Ghz or higher is easy) then there is not much difference to a 4790K which is 4GHz stock with a turbo upto 4.4Ghz on a single core.

Have you tried overclocking your 2500K?

Guide here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18375640&highlight=Z68AP - but a cooler is advised if you go past 4Ghz.
