I have a EVGA 780Ti Classified Kingpin Edition which i'm in the process of selling as I think the time is right to sell as they are still fetching £300+ on the bay.

I got my hands on a cheap 290X but thinking of selling this also along with 780Ti to fund a 980GTX.

Is the 980 a good choice or do I buy another 290X and cross fire them.

Only play at 1080 at the moment but that could change in the future.

Playing things like Battlefield 4, Dying Light etc.

If you believe the rumor mill, R 390X for the top end. Have a Dr Google, mixed time frames but I can't see it being too much longer....but who really knows apart from AMD.

The GTX 780 Ti, GTX 980 and R9 290X are all very close to each other in terms of performance; like within 5%. Now that you've sold your 780 Ti, I'd be very much inclined to just stick with the 290X. Wouldn't really really recommend a second 290X, but that would at least make some sense. As has been said, if you want a performance upgrade wait for AMD's 300 series cards, although I tend to like Neil79's the idea of going for a 120+ Hz monitor in the meantime if you have some spare cash and are on 60 Hz:)

Certainly no point in getting a GTX 980 however.

IMO just sell the 780Ti since it still go for that much, and just keep the 290x to continue using since its value has already drop so much that selling it now or little later won't have much difference in terms of value...

You should be fine on a single 290X @ 1080P. No point with dual cards for that res, just introduce unnecessary complication, micro stutter etc.

Enjoy the 290X and wait it out next gen cards start appearing. That would be the time to pick up a new GPU along with a higher res monitor you mentioned.

Save your money imho.
