Thought we'd have had this one by now but hey ho:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/feb/27/robbie-savage-escapes-driving-ban-abuse-public

So his defence to not get a driving ban is because he is "marmite" (read really ******* annoying). He gets to carry on driving because he would be at risk on public transport. This of course begs the question why he couldn't use private transport and get a taxi - it isn't like he is short of cash.

Anyway GD is this double standards or a reasonable judgement. For what it is worth I think this is blatant double standards and he should be banned and told to pay for a taxi if he is that concerned about getting hassle.

If he does it again, and again and again, at what stage is the public protected from someone speeding.
I am a little confused, he had 3 points on his licence, and got six points for this offence, that would be nine.
I wasn't aware that 9 points got you a 28 day ban from driving? I thought all bans were 12 months, obtained after 12 months and required you to take your test again afterwards?

Yeah I can see why he'd be at risk on a bus, anyone who's had to watch him on Match of the Day would probably give him a slap on the back of the head

I think the point is, he doesn't need public transport. He can taxi locally or helicopter any where else. The guy's worth millions and it should be taken into account.

These articles are such a load of utter crap it's unbelievable.

People, in general, do not get banned for 99MPH in a 70MPH unless there are severe aggravating factors. There have even been cases of people getting 6 points all the way up to 120MPH, and for 99MPH, 6 points is exactly what you'd expect.

It's not an overly lenient punishment, and even if you think it is, it's got nothing to do with him being famous. Just take a look at completed court cases on fightback forums and similar websites and you'll find plenty of people who've got 6 points for the same/higher speed, many of whom didn't even bother with a lawyer.

Yeah but it's a Guardian story, the Liberal equivalent of the Daily Mail. They just like a story where they can bash someone with too much money.

Different angle though, they hate him because he works for the BBC, and they want rid of the BBC. They will slate ANYTHING they can about the BBC or anyone who works for them at any opportunity.

So is there anyone who you would allow to consider this story?

28 day ban for 99 in a 70 with only 3 points on your license would have been very harsh imo.

£600 fine and 6 points leaving him on 9 points for 3 years is still a pretty heavy punishment.

The fact that he is a "celebrity" has nothing to do with it.
