And it is a well documented fact that Iraq invaded Iran largely unprovoked, not the other way around...so you have still not answered Old Coals question?

Anyway a nicely destabilised middle east with an Israel all the neighbours hate and want obliterated is reasonably good for keeping them looking inward and not outward.

Agree with this. Iran are not a threat to anyone. I know someone who's been and he said it's a lovely place and the people can't understand why there is such animosity towards them when all they want to do is get on with their lives. Granted they had a crazy nut job in charge for a while, but which country hasn't as some point.

Israel however are very much a threat to peace in the entire region.

He was quite often wrong however, especially with regard to the Middle East, he was often criticised by his equally intelligent and accomplished (in fact people such as Chomsky and Finklestein were Giants compared to Hitchens) compatriots.

Besides he would never have sided with the expansionist Zionism that underlines Likud so in this case it is very unlikely that Christopher Hitchens would agree with bombing Iran.

Why ? Do Israel attack neighbouring countries without provocation ? No. They simply exist in an area surrounded by Arab nations that want to see all Jews dead.
