Car crushes. Cars you really wanted but it was never meant to be.

Same here. I could buy an FD but it would have to be my only car due to space limitations. So that's a nope. :p (Also insurance and fuel economy - double nope).

I'd love an E30 M3 one day, but the prices are now through the roof :(

I could easily afford one, I just don't think I'd want to run one. There's a big difference there I think.

Mine was my Alfa GTV 3.0V6.

The love affair was short lived as my ex-wife fell pregnant making it woefully impractical after 9 short months.

Nowadays good ones will cost thousands so equally impractical on my budget.

Good thread!

Off the top of my head...

R5 GT Raider
VW Corrado Storm
Alfa Romeo SZ
Subaru Impreza RA

Still thinking.... :)

A few varied ones for me -

A Hilux with Off Road suspension (mini monster truck) when I was about 16.

Nissan Stagea Autech (Skyine GTR estate) when I was late 20's. A good one is rare as hens teeth now-a-days.

300C SRT when I was mid 30's just for the sound of it's V8 exhaust with cut-outs.

Jag XFR right this very minute!!!! So very tempted but my sensible brain keeps screaming NOOOOOO while my heart has a very different opinion.

I can remember really wanting a Suzuki SC100 "Whizzkid" in my teens. Even back then they were quite rare and usually rusty, and I can't remember the last time I saw one on the road.

I think at this point when I actually have space and time for a toy, a decent Mk1 Subaru Impreza Turbo is going to be a rarity.

The RS2000 was the one that got away really. I was planning to have one as my second car to replace my Mini. Back then they were not daft money (80's) and there was a big mod market with good bits at sensible prices. I had the money ready and was looking at the market when I got banned for reckless driving and bang, impossible to insure so I bought a MK2 Fiesta Ghia 1.3, a very rare thing as it turned out as most were unaware they did a 1.3!

Lotus Carlton. Closest I got to one was owning a Carlton 3.0 GSi 24v which I have fond memories of. Now the LC is more affordable you just never know - could be a little retirement present to myself in about 6 years time.

The other car I had a thing for as some others have already mentioned was the Delta Integrale. I almost bought a 1989 HF Turbo ie at one point but the deal fell through. Maybe that was a blessing in disguise though. :p

I'll chuck a couple of bikes in here while I'm at it - Honda RC30 or Yamaha R7 still makes me drool and I will in the next few years definitely own a Ducati 888 Superbike. Yum!

Peugeot 205 Gti. My first car was a 306 and my close friends at the time were Peugeot mad. The 205 Gti could be had for less than 2k for a minter at the time I could get one. Now they are double in price.

AE86. Again a pure car in its simplicity. The Japanese version of the MK1/2 Escorts. I will have to scratch the itch some time in the future but it needs to be a blacktop converted one. These were reasonable money 5 years ago but inital D tax has made them sky rocket!

Nissan Skyline R34 GTR. I actually test drove a couple but then came back to earth in the realization that the money was always going to go into a house deposit!

Out of those 3 the one I will try to get sometime in the future is the AE86!
