Hi,

I've had this for quite a while now, but I'd thought now would be a good time, seeing as that i'm still under warranty, and I'll have time off soon which won't require my laptop (e.g. need it for work).

Anyway, probably a few months ago at this point, I think I may have accidentally cracked part of the casing on my laptop. I carry it around in a case and everything, but one time I was rushing onto the bus, and I dropped it a bit too hard on the floor while trying to sit down :o

This resulted in what seems to be a crack under neath the casing to the left of the keyboard, right beside all the ports. reaching in length of the charger to the hunger bolt ports. It's weird; it has;t cracked from the edge like I would expect, but it's just straight down the middle, in-between the edge and the keyboard. It can be somewhat hard to see, as it is under neath the casing, not on the surface, but it is definitely visible if you tilt your head a bit. When I run my finger over it gently, I can feel a slight bump also.

I'm thinking about taking this into shop to see if anything can be done. First proper, personal experience with a Mac, and it's been pretty good I must say, but when even I open the lid up and see the crack, it makes me cringe :D

Is this something that is easily replaceable, and would you think it would be expensive? Can they do it there and then in the shop?

It's really starting to grate on me, and I just want to cover it up or something.

Can't take pictures atm due to being at work, but if they are required, I will take some when I get back.

If anyone has had any similar issues, advice would be appreciated :p

A top case assembly for a 15" rMBP (basically the whole of the keyboard area is one piece) with battery is £282.50 according to my Apple store invoice (was an in warranty repair). Yours is accidental damage so I don't think warranty will cover that.

Thanks for the info. I'll take it in over the Easter hols and see what happens, maybe I could try to pull something off... :D
