** THE FIRST FREESYNC MONITOR ARRIVES AT OcUK!! BenQ XL2730Z **

^May I ask what the last multi card setup you owned was and in what games did you suffer from game breaking micro stutter?

Only once i've owned 2 cards, 2 8800 GT's, i'm pretty sure i was getting some sort of stutter in Killing Floor - the kind where if i was constantly moving in a straight path i got these slight hiccups/hitches every so often.

I played a couple of other games with them as well like L4D & COD modern warfare, HL2 DM, Garrys mod. Though i don't recall issues with those.

I've seen people mention stuttering in different ways with multi cards. Like normal micro stuttering is supposed to be a feel of lower frame rates than what is actually being displayed, and i've seen others mention hitching and stuff like i mentioned above.

I still have the 2 8800 GT's so i suppose i could test them out on some games and have a look again, it has been a long while since i used them last.

Things have moved on a fair bit since then mate :) Generally, micro stutter isn't a real problem these days with multi card setups, though there can be the odd exception.

Indeed, frame latency on SLi & Xfire setups are very good today. AMD fixed theirs 2 years ago with fram pacing and addressed the microstutter problems they initially refused to acknowledge. Mantle makes it even smoother.

The scaling has improved drastically too from adding another card though in some games adding a 3rd and 4th card sclaes not so well. But a dual card system sclaes very well almost seeing double the performace as you'd expect. Much betterthan days of old. I'm a dual card convert. Rather get 2 970's than 1 980.

Thpough some games aren't without issues such as Farcry 4. Still no Xfire profile for that game but sometimes the issues are not the fault of the hardware or drivers but at the game development end.

Exiting times with high resolutions, variable refresh, and low level API's and VR tech hopefully making PC gaming form great leaps in game immersion and experience. I'm in!

I am running dying light on a single GTX980 at 4K 40" and am getting 40+ FPS at max details. If I turn of DoF and blur I get it sitting at 50-80 FPS most of the time.

Hardly taking advantage of a 144Hz panel though are you? 40-80fps is not exactly close to 144fps...

Hmm I am running 295x2....if I add another 290x for 3fire than yes I can...

Will allow you to run latest games maxed out at 144fps?

Isn't gpu power only part of the current though, don't both HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 max out at 60Hz for 4K? DisplayPort 1.3 will support 4K at 120Hz but no current gpu or monitors support it yet?

Maybe the new AMD cards will support 1.3

Hopefully they will, anyways.

Yes very Exiting times Woodsta888 especially with VR tech. How do you find your 4k Ilyama B2888UHSU.

Wat. As soon as it was pointed out by some sites, AMD contacted them directly and gave a press release on it stating that it was being worked on to iron it out.

Unboxing Pics for you all.

This monitor does look nice and fits together quickly and easily and comes with just about all the cables you could need.

Yes it does say HDMI 2.0 on the back of the monitor on the HDMI port

the stand comes in two parts base and stand and fits together quickly and easily. The monitor then attaches on quickly and securely as well.

Looking very nice, I'm kind of glad I don't have the £500 just yet as at least it's forcing me to wait a bit for reviews, not sure I could resist if the cash was sitting here :)

Minimums suffer quite a lot with 1 card @ 4k, i've seen a lot of benchmarks. Not saying it's not playable at all, i'm sure it is but i wouldn't call it very enjoyable. I have been used to 120hz for a while and i would be disappointed with that performance at 4k.

Just seems silly that high resolutions like 4k are being pushed out when people really need 2 or 3 GPU's to handle it well. But then users have to deal with non smooth play due to micro stutter, kind of defeats the purpose.

I think 1440P 144hz Freesync/Gsync screens will become the new norm personally, for performance and quality at least.

I'm sorry and don't want to sound like a tit but without experiencing it first hand you can't really come to that conclusion. All you are doing is assuming based on old reviews and info. Multi GPU has moved on massively since the 8800 and apart from the odd profile issue both AMD and Nvidia have excellent stutter free experiences. It also doesn't need 2 or 3 GPUs to handle it well, yes it wold be preferable but one single GTX980 runs 4K very fairly well.

Now admittedly I always turn off that hideous DoF and motion blur, and since 4K can run with lower levels of AA it means I have plenty of horse power for most games. It also means if games truly run like crud, I can drop to 1080p with full sharpness and get a massive FPS boost.

4K is more than double the pixels off 1440p and as such games will run considerably faster at 1440p. Just because you have a 144Hz monitor it does not mean all games must run at 144 FPS or they are useless.

Nggg!

Do I wait for the Asus MG279Q or do I just buy one of these... I've gotten used to the colour quality of my Dell U2711 over the last few years but I really want the variable refresh rate and I'm fed up of waiting...

Gibbo has posted in the other thread that freesync doesn't work yet, they are releasing drivers for freesync for single cards on the 19th, crossfire support not coming till April.

I asked your opinion of the monitor in the thread on the Graphics card forum, I should have asked here, I forgot that there was a thread for the monitor here too.

I have a mini display port to display port cable coming tomorrow to test it fully.

At the moment only at 60hz at 1440p, over my previous BenQ XL2411T though the colours and build quality are far better. It feels like a premium product, I'm disappointed freesync is delayed, especially the further delay for crossfire users but this isn't really a monitor fault, it's AMDs.
