Fifty Shades Of Grey costume row at school.

It's a bit dumb, but let's face it - are there any 11 year olds who will give you a blank face if you say "50 shades of Grey"

I'm guessing most will know roughly what it's about, even if they haven't read the book or seen the film. The advertising and news reports and trailers are hardly hidden from kids are they?

Very silly argument

Just because you know about something doesn't mean it is appropriate for the situation. I'm sure these kids know about that famous author Hitler, would it be ok for them to dress up as him?

The mother was on the Today Programme this morning, her rationale was the boy kept seeing the adverts everywhere - bus, TV, bookshops etc neither have read the book all they knew it was a world best seller.

Whilst the choice is questionable, it does raise an issue around censorship. The book does not have a age rating but the movie does so will we now stating what the appropriate age is for reading certain types of books ?

Ignorance is no excuse. He turned up with cable ties it hardly indicates the book was safe for work lol. She knew :D.

Edit: quick look through advertising images none show him with cable ties only a tie. Therefore this woman is a blatant liar.

The main thing with a school is that subjects and things like fancy dress should be inline with the ages of the children.

In the past it was things like Bugsy Malone..

I think the school will err on the side of caution - so I think it's a reasonable action to be honest.

I agree. I haven't read the book either but isn't it about a woman exploring her sexuality in a consensual manner ?

I also think our young should be taught about relationships rather than the basic mechanics of sex

The idea her son is the victim and has been exposed to the advertising of an adult book / film may be true...but why would you as a parent further propagate this exposure by dressing your child up with items intended for bondage? If she knows that much of the book then how can there be any ignorance involved?

The mothers stance is back peddling of the lowest order.
