nVidia announce the Titan X at GDC 2015

well based on those numbers, the Titan X is not quick enough this time around to justify the price tag. The % speed gain over a stock 980 looks juicy enough but the 390X will probably half that % gain for half the cost.

That is very disappointing performance for a £1k+ gpu. Pointless buying at that price with 16m, card likely 1 year away. Awesome card if you got money to burn though :D

It's not a 1k+ card though... at $1k... it will be similar to the 690 launch price of 800-900 quid.

Surely with a baseline of 100% for the titan x, the 980 @ 71% is 29% slower?

The 980 is 29% SLOWER than the Titan X... correct
Which means... the Titan X is 41% FASTER than the 980

The values depend on the baseline and context... too many silly people saying it's only 29% FASTER than 980 which is an incorrect statement... as explained above.

*all figures pending those benchmarks actually being real*

I made it 39.89 but I have possibly done it wrong... lol

7427-5309 = 2118...

(2118/ 5309)*100 = 39.89%

Ah I see... I just took the basic %age figures rather than the actual scores.

That still rounds to 40% though not 39% ;)... just to be annoyingly picky haha

I must admit if this rumoured adjusted price is anything like accurate then I have a dilemma, I was kinda hoping they would be £1-1.2k so I could completely write them off, but if they come in anywhere between £750-850 then I have some serious thinking to do.

I highly doubt it, there is no need for Nvidia to offer the Titan X at sub SLI GTX980 prices unless they are willing to lower the price of the GTX980 also or lose sales.

It would be like shooting themselves in the foot.

Apart from the fact that it's slower than 980 SLI

I think if we only even look at the past (original Titan) we can see that it is more than possible for this to be sub £900 and NVIDIA will be far from making a loss. The performance increase from the 980 is not extroadinary like 50%+. It's very comparable to the performance increase from the 680 to the Titan. So what justification could anyone give for this to be more expensive than 980 SLI yet be slower?

Don't underestimate NVIDIA, they have no need to protect 980 sales. They have made a fortune out of selling a mid range chip for £400+ once again. Now the high end GPU will be whatever price they want and it will still sell out. So you are right in fact that they have no need to make it sub $1500 because the demand for this GPU is so high. So I've just rambled on for no reason

If it's more than 980 SLI I'll not even consider it. That being said dual card solutions have always been more bang for buck than a top single card and it didn't affect sales of previous titans, well apart from the hilarity that was the Titan Z.

Someone also made the good point earlier in the thread that this is still 28nm and quite mature now, with 16nm coming soon, so charging megabucks this late would stink a bit.

How is it disappointing? and its not a 1k+ card, if it turns out to be that then i apologise, but it will come in at £800-£900 from the reports online.
But we will just have to wait and see over the next 7 days
