Considering a new monitor...

I'm looking at the possibility of upgrading from my existing 24" monitor to a 27" or 28" panel but while I'm at it thought I might as well be looking at the 2560x1440 resolutions!

Has anyone got any experience of the following models:

Acer Predator G277HU

Acer CB270HU

Acer K272HUL

I appreciate that these three are towards the bottom end of the scale price-wise for a 1440p screen of that size but I'd consider pushing my budget a little higher if it's worth paying the extra for the Samsung, Dell and BenQ panels at circa £350!

My primary use is general browsing and gaming (generally not FPS's) and I also appreciate that this upgrade might necessitate a GPU upgrade too but I'll deal with that later!

If you want a good picture and are not bothered about 1ms updates or 144Hz refresh then I'd highly recommend the Dell U2515H

I picked up a couple of these and they are brilliant.
25" screen is not too different to a 27" (I have 2 either side of a 27", works great for me), and I would say to have the quality of a Dell it would be a better option than an Acer. The Dell is £250

I saw the Dell and the cost certainly appeals but I'm not sure I'll see enough of a difference size-wise going from my 24" to a 25" panel!

I have to say I've loved my Dell screen and would have another without question but in order to jump up to 1440p I think I'd prefer a 27" as a minimum!
 
Apparently don't go acer they have bad customer service and from what i have seen on-line the acer models do have noticeable bad back light issues however for the price you can go to far wrong
 
Everyone always raves about the Dell U2715H. It's out of stock at OverClockers with no date on new stock. But plenty of other places have it in, cheaper too...

I have to say I've always loved my current Dell panel but I'm not sure that going to a 25" model from my current 24" will give me enough of a size increase to be honest!

I have to say the Acer warranty issues concern me (as well as the fact that most of the lower price models seem to be Acer - I guess you get what you pay for!)

If I'm going to start looking at the higher priced models then can anyone give me a bit of a brief lesson on "G-Sync", "Freesync", 144Hz, TN, IPS etc and what I should be looking at for a gaming monitor??
 
I said the Dell U27 ....15H model. 27 inches. The one mentioned by the other chap was the U25 ...15H.

27 inch, IPS and 1440p. With decent enough response times to please most gamers. Unless you're a hardcore CounterStrike player.

My apologies, I copied and pasted and just looked at the first link on Google, which went to the 25" model in error!

No worries, Im going to be picking one up myself no doubt. Mainly play games like Arma 3 and strategy games, no intense FPS games. But am debating holding off for the Asus MG279Q. IPS, 1440p, 144Hz.
 
The more I read about monitors the more dazed and confused I become!! :confused:

All of a sudden I'm looking at panels a bit higher up the food chain and I've read a bit about the 120Hz and 144Hz panels being the business but then I'm getting confused with "G-Sync" and "FreeSync"!?!?

Am I right in understanding that G-Sync is an nVidia feature and FreeSync is AMD's?? If this is right, does it mean that a G-Sync panel won't work with an AMD card should I choose to change in the future or do I just lose certain features??

Sorry if this is a stupid question and there is a huge thread explaining it somewhere!
 
Just having a look at the BenQ GW2765HT at just over £300 and it appears to tick all the boxes!?!?

- 2560x1440 resolution
- IPS screen
- 4ms response time

Am I missing something here? What is wrong with this monitor??
 
I decided on the BenQ GW2765HT and it landed today.

First impressions - wOw! :eek: It looks a lot bigger than I expected it to and the screen looks amazing!

Only had a few minutes to play with it at lunch but wondered the following:

- I've used a HDMI cable to connect it - are there any downsides to using this connection? (ie. should I be using dual DVI or the display port - what advantages/disadvantages do these have?)

- The default brightness is set to max (100) - are there any generic steps I should follow to "calibrate" things?

Damn you Stevie! Was just about to buy the Dell U2515H but have now turned my attention to the BenQ :mad::p

I am currently using a cheapo 22" 1080 (bargain from OcUK around 7 years ago, 1080p, HDMI and only cost £155) which does me well considering. I do game but am far from a serious gamer. Assume the whole input lag thing shouldn't really be an issue with the likes of the Dell and BenQ?

I should be able to give a bit more feedback in the next few days after I've had a chance to have a proper look!

I do like the Dell panels but for me, going from 24" to 25" just didn't seem worth it - I guess it depends on what size screen you are going from though!

Must admit, my heart was in my mouth when I saw a hole in the side of the box it came in, like something had been poked through, but thankfully the screen looks fine! :cool:
 
Great, look forward to hearing your views.

That was my only worry about the Dell, it might not seem that much bigger than my current one but those bezels make you soon forget :eek::D.

I would go for the Dell 27" but it's a little out my price range hence why the BenQ has peaked my interest.

Not had any issues with mine so I can't help I'm afraid - mine is connected by the display port cable - perhaps that might have something to do with it?? (I'm just guessing here!)
