nVidia announce the Titan X at GDC 2015

Do what i did sell on the 3930k, Mobo and Ram I got £600 for it with the water blocks Greg
Update to X99 and get a titanX then you should be close to a 2nd card.

Do it greg, 2 titan x's on an x99 (what I'll be doing) will be awesome.

I did game at 4K and that was real lush, so I won't discard that option either and with that comes less work on the CPU, so less potential bottleneck. There is so many variables and I just don't know what to do. I also know that DX12 will make our current older gen CPUs feel like a 2 gen upgrade, so that is in the back of my head as well.

I am leaning towards 2 TXs and sitting with what I have for now. I can't afford to get 2 and X99 in one hit, so I will see how the TXs get on.

If the X series are anything like the Z range in regards to performance upgrades for games, id sit tight with what you have. I've owned several ib and haswell chips. For games there's no noticeable difference.

Exactly, it's just spending money on nothing really.

Far better putting it towards a 2nd card that can almost double your framerate in games that scale well.

You'll get a good price for your current x79 setup though ?

at the moment....

Why kid yourself? You'll bench that titan, sit atop the firestrike charts (excluding 8 pack) only for some younger flasher guy with an x99 platform to knock you off top...save yourself the frustration :p

Probably but it is the chore of taking it all down and rebuilding a new system. I have no boxes for my Mobo, I can't even find the CPU box, so that isn't a good start.

Now why did you have to say that.... Do you know me in real life lol?

Because I'm the same xD I literally bought x99 to replace my haswell 4770k rig because I like benching and getting near the top :p

Tough one. Me personally if it were right now I would sell the 980 and buy two 290s. £400 all in for 4k ready.

Main reason? they're awesome for 4k and it would work out cheaper than buying another 980. Plus you get the memory bandwidth...

The other option? go SLI Titan X if you can afford it. Obviously with them being newer gen cards they'll be far faster than the old ones.

Not worth it. Yes they have the VRAM but they're not new gen and the cores are slow. What I mean is yeah, they have the VRAM but the cores are just about good enough for 4k now. All that VRAM won't be of help going into the future.

So I'll stick with my above for now. Do 4k as cheaply as you can because there are new cards coming. High priced old gen cards will never return their outlay.

Some good suggestions there Andy - think I will wait and see how much the Tx are, and go from there. I am not in any hurry so can wait, but I deffo see your point about the cost of adding a 2nd 980 - having said that 2x Tx are deffo not going to be cheap so would have to last me for quite some years to get any value from them. Decisions, decisions.

TBH to get any value out of the Titans you need to keep them for a couple of years. As we know though for most that would prove too much and they'll get something else.

I know for certain that if the 390x is what it's cut out to be then I will be ditching my TBs and I'd have only had them just over a year by then.

I need 4k performance and tbh I don't really care who makes it or what it looks like I just need it.

Personally I'm waiting for the 390x so I'll be skipping the TX.

I just took a quick look in the CPU section, i wouldn't worry about any of it, those future CPUs are either the same as now or only 5% faster.

same as last time !!!!

the 390X is already in use, in that VR Headset thing, i read that it's 50% more powerful than the 290X and this was confirmed by others too, i read it 3 days ago...it only has 4GB RAM

so on that graph this might give you an idea of where it stands, about 10% less than the Titan X ...........if true

Yeah I saw benches before that put it 50% over a Titan Black and that was good enough for me :)

I'm not overly concerned about the 4gb VRAM Mal if I'm honest. Thing is 4gb seems to be enough for now and console slop doesn't change over time. IE - if a good looking console slop game is on the PC using less than 4gb @ 4k then it's highly likely that will be enough for the remainder of this console slop gen.

Could be wrong but I've plenty of time left to find out :)

hi

yea i think the 390X will be fine, but i am worried about its lack of RAM, just like with mine right now, but it'll be a tricky decision that's for sure..

the deciding factor will be very simple :- the price of Titan X :eek:

my guess is it'll be 900 to 1000 quid....but over that no way !

All that was said was it was a "new R9 flagship card", not that it was a 390x.
It could have been one of the new 290x rebrands for all we know, if it is launched first then it will be AMD's flagship card, until they release something faster.
