Just took delivery of a box which looks as though it has been used as a football by Hermes staff, not the driver I hasten to add as I know him well.
This box contained paint the paint is no longer in its tin.
What more can I say.

Oh and my steamer is missing the rather vital pressure cap thingy making that useless. The thing is I have seen it recently but cannot remember where so it remains hidden until of course I arrive back from Screwfix with a new one when the cap will mysteriously appear.

Thank you Hermes.

By now I am thinking I need to get this out of the house. And just made it before total collapse.

Having worked previously in dispatch - fragile tape is like a red flag to a bull - pretty much guarantees it gets chucked into the van/lorry as hard as possible :S (think we had to get rid of 1/3rd of temps due to that while I was there).

wrap it in "caution:contaminated" or "biological hazard" tape :p

Absolutely shocking!

My other half recently started a manufacturing business, trading online and used Hermes for the first few runs. Twice a driver didn't show up to collect the parcels, despite her leaving a further two day window for error and 4 out of 5 further deliveries turned up with smashed glass and ripped packaging. I've never seen service as bad.

With couriers you get what you pay for... if you want it there intact and on time use UPS or Fed Ex. Its expensive for a reason... ( of course there will be the odd mess up but in general i mean ).

These cheap parcel carriers use temp staff/ self employed staff and concentrate on shifting as much as they can however they can. Quality of service just doesn't come into it.

I've had better luck with DPD than UPS though atleast as far as I can remember UPS has never broken anything. I wonder how some of the others are still in business - FedEx has twice managed to deliver to the wrong house in recent history and its not like we are hard to find, DHL has a 50% track record of even turning up at all, RM almost always a day or 2 outside the delivery window and 1-2 others i.e. yodel have a bad habit of carding (I'm guessing the item was never even on the van) without even trying the door.

EDIT: To be fair RM have been far better for some reason since the start of 2015 I think 90% actually came on the first day of the delivery window unlike 2014 where it was lucky if they came inside it at all.

*paint ;-)

That is pretty damn bad though. I always try and use DPD, FedEx or UPS when sending/ receiving parcels as they at least give the impression they're professional.

Poor packaging. That box looks like it's been recycled multiple times and doesn't look up to the job.

If you want it to get there use a courier

If its low value or you don't really care use a parcel carrier
UPS
DPD
APC
HERMES
Etc,Etc are parcel carriers.

I do not just blame Hermes as the packaging was shocking to begin with. This is a company I have used many times without issue and any paint I have had from them has usually been covered in cling film then very well boxed.

TI have just finished cleaning up leaving behind some painted flags and grass. Fortunately it is emulsion so hopefully will not be a major issue.
Now to hit the companies involved with a claim for damages.

For one off parcels, how does one even go about shipping with DPD? Their website isn't exactly consumer friendly unless you're a trade customer.

That packaging is worse than useless (source: I work for a different delivery company). I would be as angry with the sender as Hermes.

But the driver just left it to leak all over your garden?

Horrendous packaging. Why no pics of the actual tin inside?
Did the tin rupture or did the lid simply pop off?
Was the lid taped in place?
Was the tin sealed inside plastic?
Was the box even able to stand rigid, let alone take any weight from stacking? They might as well have shipped the tin in a large paper envelope.

I believe quality of the packaging makes a difference to how your parcel is treated.
I believe if the packaging is tatty, every hand it passes through will not hesitate to add their own damage/mark to it because it's already damaged/marked.
I believe if the packaging is pristine then every hand it passes through will take care not to add any of their own damage/marks to it.
