Tips at restaurants

If service is included I don't tip. If it is not included then I do (if the service was good of course).

It's all well and good saying it should be reflected in their pay, but unfortunately it's not. In this type of job, they can afford to pay minimum wage because they will always be able to get people to work in that sort of job.

However there are workers out there who enjoy their job and go above what would usually be expected of them, and I like to reflect that by giving that person a tip.
If higher end restaurants are paying minimum wage and offering up poor service as a result then that is something the business needs to deal with, not the customer.

In uk I never tip, especially as service is always rubbish, they get minimum wage deal with it, in the us you pretty much have to tip and th service is better

Why just tips waiters though? SO many people are on minimum wage why is it we just tip in the service industry? For example a home care worker wipes you backside gives you a wash, change your bed and makes a meal and yet she gets no tip.

so do you tip in mcdonalds?

if say you order and they tell you to sit down and they'll bring it over. would you tip?

No but if they came round and asked if everything was ok, and could they get me another drink. Then maybe a would.

You can't compare Fast food to a restaurant.

I tip if they have been attentive and done a good job, but if there is a service charge they won't get tipped and if they do a bad job and there is a service charge on there I will ask that it's removed.I had a birthday meal 3 weeks back for my wife and a few of us went to a nice local indian restaurant. Food was great, service was smiley but the lack of attention and slowness of service was annoying. The bill came with a service charge, I asked it to be removed and explained why, not least as they gave me a survey at the end of the meal. A good restaurant will understand, a bad one will likely moan and chunter but who gives a ****, their problem.

why not?

you give your order to him, he tells it to a chef then he brings over what the chef makes.

hell out of the whole chain the waiter isn't the person who really should be tipped it should be the cook.

cooking the food right is much more important to my meal than how its carried over to me.

I don't tend to tip, I will only tip if the food was out of this world and the service made me want to stay there forever

and if they add a service charge I get rather annoyed, when you have a big family meal and are spending hundreds who cares if you tie up a waiter/waitress. You normally book in advance for those anyway so they should be expecting it.

People tipping when having a carvery...

Service charges i will have removed then make the decision on the service i received as to whether i tip or not.

NMW isn't great in this country but it's a hell of a lot better than most, also your call centre, warehouse worker doesn't have the luxury of tips yet earns the same.

If the service is quite good (once the waitress in Pizza Hut managed to get a replacement pizza for us after it wasn't cooked and we'd already eaten half of it) I usually tip with the change, like giving £25 to pay £22 and letting her keep the rest :)

If i'm in a restaurant and the person serving seems exceptional - or looks it ;) - then i'd tip. Otherwise, it's in the price. :)

If I enjoy the experience I will happily leave a tip, I get it's not mandatory but what's a couple of quid really going to matter?
