Looking at getting back into a Honda as the family bus and have been looking at an FRV (Marmite I know!) Budget is around £5k. We currently cover 5-8k miles per year. Car covers maybe 100 miles a month normally then over holidays we drive around the country visiting family.

Looking at the market I could get an older 2.0 Sport or newer higher mileage 1.8 around budget from a private sale.

Is there something else that offers the reliability of the Honda? I currently drive a Renault grand scenic and would never get another! electrical issues....

Assume this is the 150ishbhp 2 litre that was also found in the civic type S?

If so I'd probably rather the newer 1.8 - the 2.0 is fine but you'll get the same power yet better economy with the 1.8.

Both are pretty reliable though I'm not up to speed on the frv itself

Thanks for the response.

Yes its the 150 BHP engine in the 2.0. I agree the 1.8 may be a better buy in some sense but seems to hold quite a large premium. Ill be buying on the condition of the car.

I will be avoiding the 1.7 though.

I would much rather have a higher mileage gen 8 1.8. The gen 7 is looking very dated these days (inside and out).

5k should be more than enough to get you a decent enough gen 8 1.8 car (06/07/08) with reasonable miles surely?

Are you getting mixed up with the Civic because I mentioned it? Don't think the FRV has had anything like 8 generations to date?

From a quick look it seems like you'd need about £6k to have a good selection of 1.8's. Probably best drive both and see how you feel

Haha, oh yeh. ignore me then :p

I was a tad confused by the gen comments (i know there was a facelift in 2008 ish).

So I take it it doesnt really matter which one? Looking at prices the 1.8 is about £2k more than the 2.0. With a young family id rather pay £3k for a car :)
