*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S6/Edge Thread ***

With a non-replaceable battery, how long is the S6 supposed to last before the battery will require replacing? At that point, do you have to send it back to Samsung for replacement?

Had a play with the edge and 'boring' model in Samsung store in Cardiff.

One word on the edge. Stunning. The screen quality is excellent. Viewing angles and the colour production, including very white, whites are first class.

The edge oozes quality. I am very tempted to pick one up even though I have a decent phone.

Touchwhiz is much improved. The speed between apps and function were semeless.

We are still in March, but the edge could well be the phone of the year.

How does the edge feel in the hand? Some are saying it is a bit odd to hold

Had a look at the edge and I'm slightly disappointed. It feels very light which makes it feel less premium. Also the edge does suffer from colour distortion on the edges. I looked at both the white and black version and there is a green hue when viewing white. The edges also reflect light when the screen is dark, especially noticeable when watching videos. But the store was extremely bright.

Also has a quick look at the standard S6 and that looks too boring, could pass for a S5.

Quick picture I took, you can see the green hue on both sides of the curve

No colour distortion on the two phones I had a play with.

The edge wasn't a problem to use in portrait or landscape.

The only thing I did think was that cases and screen protection may be a problem, but if the Gorilla Glass Four is as hard as reported then scratches should not be too much of a problem.

Yes the edge is light in weight, but that should be a help if dropped.

I'm not a Samsung sheep, but I have to say the edge is the most impressive Samsung phone I have had a play with.

I liked the use of the edge to notify you of calls, messages, email, news etc. Also nice touch to see time and weather info when in sleep mode.

@ Smokedog, nice, would you say the colour issue was light bleeding from the coloured glass or to do with the screen bend, obviously only if circumstance allowed you the opportunity?

Haha maybe ;)

Or maybe stoosh will get one, and I will get another!

Do you wish to join our club?

Nooo, though I'll gladly read the opinions of club members and check loads of vids, I probably won't buy one till late May unless Kona spots one of amazon's end of "pallet" early super price reductions I can't resist. I like all the early problems to be sorted and the production workers to get into the swing before I give amazon my money.

The green hue is due to the curve of the glass, its most noticeable when viewing it face on. Hold its at a slight angle and its gone.

I noticed the EUR prices are up on Amazon.de for the Galaxy S6.

€699 for the 32GB S6
€799 for the 64GB S6
€899 for the 128GB S6

€849 for the 32GB Edge
€949 for the 64GB Edge
€1049 for the 128GB Edge

If anything it gives a guide as to what Amazon's UK price will fall in line to and remember it won't be a straight up exchange rate conversion either. So just a heads up for everyone.

I'd take their overall battery rating with a pinch of salt. Anandtech's battery review is the one to wait for. ARS Technica's is also good to.

As you say, Final release software will also help I guess.

Good shout! I forgot about Anandtech. Secondly the "review" models going out apparently have 50mAh less than the retail units. Not that it's going to make a great deal of difference but it's not accurate for sure.

@AlecR I've gone off the Edge and if I were to buy a S6 it would be the standard one but obviously the 128GB version. I am waiting to see what Sony do with the Z3 lollipop update then make up my mind so you can go for the Edge version and between us we'd have both! :D

Nice. The exchange rates are good if you import and pay by CC.

Why is Amazon UK so slow to put their ads up I wonder.
