People born through IVF were referred to as “synthetic children” and Gabbana referred to “wombs for rent”.

John, who has had two children with his husband David Furnish through IVF, said the remarks, which were made in an interview last week, were “out of step with the times”. Speaking to the Italian magazine Panorama alongside his business partner, Stefano Gabbana, the designer said children should be born to a mother and a father.

“I’m not convinced by those I call the children of chemicals, synthetic children,” he added. “Wombs for rent, sperm chosen from a catalogue ... psychiatrists are not ready to confront the effects of this experimentation,” he said. Dolce, who spent more than 20 years in a relationship with Gabbana, went on to say he could not have a child because he was gay.

Speaking on Sunday, Gabbana said: “We firmly believe in democracy and the fundamental principle of freedom of expression that upholds it.”

Just saw the #BoycottDolceGabbana hashtag trending on twitter and saw this new article regarding how Dolce & Gabbana view children of gay couples, those born through IVF and adopted. Anyone else find these comments totally unacceptable? Totally out of touch to say that in this day and age. Whilst they are entitled to that opinion, to come out in public and say that is nothing short of idiotic.

There will probably be a whole load of different opinions on this, so please be respectful!

Hmm...by the literal meaning of the word they are synthetic. They're synthesised to imitate a natural process in the case of IVF.
For adoption however, yeah, load of crap.

Test-Tubes are so passé, Diamond encrusted Gold/Platinum Designer receptacles are where it's at.

They might be free to say what they like, but I don't understand why we should in anyway care about there opinion? I literally could not care less about what they think despite weather I agree with them or not.

I don't particularly agree with them, but I doubt their opinions really matter that much in the scheme of things..however I do not agree with people like Elton John calling to boycott their business which would put potentially thousands of jobs at risk, not to mention the funding that the brand adds to various charities and good causes.

It is up to people to decide individually what they do, whether they continue to buy D&G or not, it is not really acceptable to tell or influence others simply because you do not agree with what is essentially a pretty inconsequential opinion on traditional family.

It's a double standard, in fact the only thing about this I agree with is Stephan Gabbana's statement “It is simply arrogant not to tolerate those who think like him![John] poor thing!”

Anyway, I suspect that the handbags will be out for a while, until Elton John needs support for whatever Charity he is find off one year and D&G supply it.

I think ivf is only the tip of the iceberg. I am convinced that by now somewhere they are mixing humans and animals and even growing geneticly modified humans. Why would they stop at crops?

surprisingly, "they" arent crazy Germans mixing up glowing green test tubes in a castle muttering "mad! they called me mad!!".

they are people who are normal people just like the rest of us doing a job they love to feed their family and discovering new things. and amazingly by some strange coincidence they actually have moral and ethical principles that they follow. Its definately not "I wonder if I could make a man-lion-whale hybrid and see if it works".

gm crops stems from "how do we make crops that are easy to grow in harsh conditions, it would be good if we could do that and help feed people in developing countries" or "I wonder if theres a way to turn a pungent rubbish tip into fuel"
