Grind the ROTC playlist for marks, you might get a drop or two by the end of the 150 required.
NF followed by a lvl 30 weekly will net you ~20 marks I believe. Follow that up with a few ROC strikes (6 a piece) or chase public events (4 for gold completion) and you will be there in no time.
As others have said, I wouldn't worry about it - it didn't go our way last night but that's just the way it goes sometimes.
Mask of the Third Man and Red Death can actually drop anywhere or often just be bought from Xur. It can drop directly through Nightfall, CE (Deathsinger or Crota), VoG (Gorgon chest or Atheon), or, if you're really lucky, Crucible or ROC strike. You can also get exotics indirectly from a legendary engram.
Your best chance of getting an item to heal though, is to just do normal CE raid each week and see if you get a helmet that drops with the health regen perk. I've had three (out of six) for my Hunter with that perk and one (out of one) for my Titan.
As for levelling up another character; my second character was actually another Hunter so I could share gear and get two attempts at raid gear each week. Once I'd gotten all the Hunter gear I wanted, I deleted one of them and only then did I create a Warlock.
Anyway, ROC strikes are the way to go. 10 strikes and you'll have over 150 marks and can buy a better launcher. You might be lucky and get some other decent drops on the way.

The public event timing is all messed up at the moment....can't farm them.

TBH I havn't really been paying attention to the timing on them. I only care about the first one in a day to get the 5k XP

Are there any Crota runs planned for thursday night on PS4? I ask now as i see the spaces fill VERY quick. Im a hunter on lvl 31 (half way to 32)

Is it 5k? I have been starting to stash them ready for HoW but used them to level up the VoG drops I got the other day. Must start stashing them again! Got a bit more crucible to do get marks maxed.
Unless they changed it, yes it is still 5k. As there is no XP counter it is difficult to confirm either way TBH. I suppose you could somehow compare its effect on your "XP to next MoL" bar to a 5K bounty?
destinystatus.com will display the actual amount of XP as a numerical figure, so you could check what the figure is before opening the package and after. Pretty sure it is 5K though.
Shame it doesnt apply to weapons - still seems like it takes too long to upgrade exotics especially when most are primaries...

The first public event reward XP does apply to weapons?
My Oversoul edict pinged that it upgraded after I accepted one from the post master the other day.
The daily mission XP doesn't apply to weapons.

Up for this, still need some mats. Got preadyths revenge, timepiece and hard light last night. Hopefully get something good for my warlock.
