Jeremy Clarkson suspended from BBC

Surely somebody else shares my view that TG is getting tired as Hell anyway? It's been a great format - revolutionary, perhaps too - but now even the special stuff is becoming repetitious and over-choreographed. Nothing in them happens by chance - it's all planned months in advance by the production team, which is perfectly fine, but they present it as organic and their acting just isn't good enough to pull it off.

It might be :)... I still watch it but I suppose if I stop I can declare I don't need a licence :)

I heard that he spent 45 minutes punching the guy in the head after he'd already been knocked unconscious, and that Clarkson had been arrested by the United Nations for crimes against humanity!

Personally, I'm glad.

This is sarcasm, by the way.

Apparently he was yelling "POW Right in the kisser!" over and over again :P

Hope that this happens:

Jeremy Clarkson is expected to return to the BBC within weeks, as the suspended Top Gear presenter has been booked to host Have I Got News for You just days before the election.

Clarkson, suspended by the BBC over his “fracas” with a Top Gear producer, will host the third episode of the new series of the satirical quiz show on May 1. The producers of the show warned that they always have a “field day” with the controversial star.

Jimmy Mulville, who runs Hat Trick production company, joked that he may also invite Oisin Tymon, the producer allegedly punched by Clarkson last week, on to the show “so he can hit Jeremy Clarkson live on television”.

The new series is due to begin on April 17 and Mr Mulville said at a Broadcasting Press Guild breakfast that he had yet to hear from the BBC about whether Clarkson’s appearance would be affected by his suspension. He said: “As far as I’m concerned, he is hosting Have I Got News for You in early May.”

I don't see why it wouldn't. Clarkson's face isn't banned from Broadcast, he's just suspended from the Top Gear filming unit so that him and Oisin Tymon don't come into proximity.

As long as Oisin doesn't actually feature on HIGNFY (Although that would be hilarious) I don't think there's a single reason why it shouldn't.

HIGNFY isn't made by the BBC but subcontracted out and so does the suspension even matter for Hat Trick Productions?

I would have thought so, the idea of the BBC showing a BBC show albeit produced by a subcontractor which features a contracted BBC presenter who is currently suspended from work sounds a bit off...

I would assume this'll all be over by the time its due to be shot/broadcast as JC's contract is up before then and can you imagine JC continuing with the disciplinary process if he's out of contract?

I hope he does it as he's usually good on HIGNFY and it is one of my favourite programs. I am a fan of Paul Merton.

Have I Got News For You has in the past featured people who aren't allowed in the country!!

I think this should be an editorial decision made by production company, however;

"It was felt by all concerned that continued stories about Angus's private life made him the subject of headlines, rather than commentating on them, and made his position as host of the topical satire programme untenable."

This was their justification for firing Angus Deayton as host in 2002. So you could argue that letting Clarkson host the show would be a double standard.

Although you could also argue that a lot of the guest hosts have had that, the issue with Deaton was basically that he was the (at the time) permanent host, so it wouldn't have been a one off event but every week.

What I don't understand is that the weekly repeats of top gear went ahead for the show before the incident, after it, so recent broadcasts of JC appeared after he was suspended. So I don't see why he won't be able to appear after he is out of top gear contract.

The suspension doesn't prohibit JC from appearing on the BBC, I believe he's just suspended from the Top Gear Production/Office. They can still show old, completed episodes but nothing new as they've not filmed the studio segments yet.

Ah ok I get you. It seems silly then that he wouldn't be able to do HIGNFY
