Firearm possession debate aside, there's simply no excuse for loading hollow point rounds in a firearm under the pretence of "defence."

Maximising the lethality of the weapon you carry for self defence makes perfect sense.

As you'd only be drawing the weapon to protect yourself from someone else who is using/preparing to use deadly force against you; a sensible person would want the best chance of preventing their assailants from being successful.

Having an effective weapon/round combination and the skills/training to use it will give you that best chance.
