Jeremy Clarkson suspended from BBC

Could James May be indicating he might leave? saying all three of them are a package, and saying he does "not want to talk about it too much" about his future at top gear

Too be fair I doubt he has even had time to properly process it. It's like like he is going to say "yes I quit, were all going to Sky1 with a new series starting in Jan" is it?

What do you really expect him to say?

Lots of complicated issues are at stake here I'd imagine.

Are Hammond and May really a united front with Clarkson? Surely that isn't unconditional, i.e. it depends on contract price from BBC vs. others.

Does Evans even want May and Hammond, maybe he's got his own crew in mind and will demand them as a condition of signing for the BBC?

Do the BBC even want May and Hammond?! Maybe they're now considered 'bad eggs' and they want to make a clean break and re-brand the show entirely.

Maybe Sky et al have their own ideas for Clarkson's sidekicks.

And most unlikely but perhaps still possible - maybe Clarkson wants to work with someone else?

Haven't seen it posted already.

He raises a good point about the police and proportionality and Mark Tompson - but I guess it is good that the BBC are being a bit more "even" with their behaviour. They need to be whiter than white and transparent at the moment after all the stuff they've got wrong.

I'm sure JC won't lose any sleep over it, and neither will 99% of people including myself.

From what they've said they are clearly off as well.
They know full well, that TG in BBC will utterly fail. Better to go, it's not like any off them three are going to struggle for money.

Clarkson acted the clown undoubtedly but a **** load has been made over nothing really, media has hyped up a storm to sell papers and most of the time they would probably have sat down, talked it out and moved on.

Personally I hope they all leave and the show tanks, can't stand the BBC.

Must say I feelsorry for the bloke involved, the one who argued with Clarkson, his life will be made hell.

nah he's just leaving all options open

lets face it the BBC are potentially going to offer some serious $$$ to try and keep him and Hammond... on the other hand some commercial broadcasters will likely pay an even bigger wedge for the three of them together. He's going to have multi million pound deals on the table either way.

Yeah, well if it ends up being Chris Evans + some old Top Gear presenters - say Quentin Willson and Tiff Needell it could get pretty dire... not that the latter two are dire in any way but they're not going to sell the show overseas to such a mass market - they were good for a small show, old Top Gear with a couple of million blokes who are into cars watching and being mildly entertained. Not the 350 million viewers super-show it got turned into by Clarkson, May and Hammond.

It genuinely drives me to despair that we live in a society where a significant number of people think that continuity of TV programming should trump creating a fair and equal workplace where violence and verbal assaults are not tolerated.

Why? People get a great deal of enjoyment from the show. It may not be right, but most people are indifferent to what does/doesn't happen off air.

David Schneider describes brilliantly the difference between comedians/comedy characters doing Un-PC stuff and the Top Gear blokes and why one is OK and the other is criticised...

That female comedian during the report is an insult to comedy for starters, absolutely rubbish.

The lines from Hammond and Clarkson about the mexicans is hilarious.

Hammond "Imagine waking up and remembering you're mexican"
Clarkson "It would be brilliant 'cos you could just go back to sleep again" :D

That's not 'bad, lazy, comedy" it's just people who are over sensitive, too politically correct or that have no sense of humour who think it's not funny.

Clarkson didn't really give the BBC any choice as soon as he hit Tymon.

I don't think people realise how Clarkson is the driving force behind Top Gear. He writes the scripts, does rough edits, etc. He's not just a presenter, he developed and sold the concept of the car entertainment show that TG now is, and made it the biggest show the BBC has.

Part of that is the three presenters who are playing characters just as much as the Stig is. I'm not sure how you could continue that or replace the three presenters without killing off what makes TG the success it is. The majority of people don't tune in because they are interested in cars, they tune in because they want to see what car-based entertainments these four characters are up to this week.

Without May, Hammond, and Clarkson (who literally drives the show), I don't see how it can continue to be the success it is. It will just become the dull driving show presented by dull presenters that got it cancelled in the first place, or is just as bad as 5th Gear is languishing in the depths of cable/satellite tv.

Hopefully the BBC will do a complete re-vamp and bring out a new show with better presenters that are actually funny, that way the pathetic bigot won't get another penny from the Top Gear series!

Basically JC/Top Gear is 'The Sun'/Fox News of the motorcar programs world, hateful, bigoted, unfunny and full of disingenuous half truths.

Adios ahole ;-)

Clarksons just given the BBC the opportunity to get rid of the last show aimed purposefully at men, expect it to come back with a someone like sarah millican as the main host and a metrosexual guy and a random ethnic person.

I think its time to cancel my TV licence as I have stopped watching most live TV except sports which I can stream via sky or BT

Yeah I'm doing this as well as it's literally all I watched on live TV.
