A little bit of a thanks for the info post but last night I was in a pub in shoreditch and had my bag pinched with my surface pro, car keys, house keys, cheapy phone (thankfully my actual phone and wallet were in my pocket).

A gentlemen who sounded much like Brad Pitt's character in snatch was being very lary and singing in my face which I think must have been the distraction while his colleague pinched my bag.

I have no idea whether they would find my address so feel compelled to change my house locks and get the car key knocked off the accepted list.

I'm waiting for a crime number.

If I claim on my house insurance how much is that likely to increase my future insurance costs? I'm thinking perhaps don't bother.

They might have dumped some of your stuff not far from the pub, might be worth checking any bushes within a few streets just in case they dumped your keys

Sorry to hear about the theft :(

It would more than likely put your renewal up from the same company (as they hope you auto renew without checking around) but if you change insurers it won't make much, if any, difference.

I had to make a £700 claim once, funnily enough when my renewal came through it was ~£700 higher! I then changed to a new company, declaring the claim of course, and got it cheaper than I was paying anyway.

Sorry to hear it :( Things are replaceable, but it's damn annoying when you're replacing something that wasn't even taken (such as locks), I feel your pain.

Some pubs in London must be like shooting fish in a barrel for thieves, iWotsits laying around everywhere, laptops, money, bags, phones strewn around, it's a thieves heaven.

Why could you have just held onto your bag?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

It's always a minority in society who make life miserable for the rest of us. I don't get people who steal from others. I'm sure they think they're clever, but they're not, they're just pond scum.

I agree but taking a bag to a pub and leaving it lying around is asking for it

Must admit I wouldn't leave my drink unattended in a pub much less anything of value, edit: your friend needs a good firm punch in the nose.

This in no way excuses the thieving scum who stole the OP's belongings and I hope Karma gives then a painful incurable and long lasting disease for their actions.

It was at our feet the whole time, not unattended. while I popped to a cash point i asked my friend to watch it, either way at our feet the entire time but as I said there was a distraction scam.

personally i always wrap the shoulder strap around my arm/leg, even on the train as it wouldnt take much for a snatch and run at a station.

but hind sight and all that.

they would have took easy sellable valuables dumped everything else in a bin or something close maybe toss over fence.

your not some big shot so doubt your house would be targeted or you. just a oooh look hes got a bag with some goods in at time of passing. wrong place wrong time.

I hate thieves! Apart from the financial loss, the inconvenience of replacing things like keys, cards and locks is not fun.
