Hi again,

Ok new problem.. Just fitted a new KFA2 GTX 970 OC Silent "Infin8 Black Edition" bought from Overclockers into my mITX build and everything seems to be okay but the thing seems to be making a buzzing noise when display games graphics. The more it has to render on the screen the lounder it gets, so by moving your head around in the game can make the noise quiter and louder?

If you quit out to the menu its stops, back in game it starts again?

I have not had this before and its pretty annoying.. what could it be, is the card faulty?

cheers,

Are you sure.. just tried another game and its even louder, sounds like its gonna fizz up and melt. lol. its unusable.

As for the power supply its the corsair CX600M

Hmm OK.. While running another game with the card making this god awful noise.. It just crashed, reset itself and then moaned the CPU over clock had failed.

Is this all PSU related issues?

Cheers

Potentially. Its called coil whine, and is not a sign of a broken card as such, just an inherent issue with capacitors on the card. When electricity passes through them they resonate and make a noise. AFAIK the card you have was designed to have as little coil whine as possible. Might be worth speaking to OCUK as I thought they were swapping cards. Might be wrong though. Yes it possibly isn't helped by the PSU.

Get it back to OcUK for testing and we will test it on a better PSU to see if it whines/buzzes for us. :)

Hi guys,

Thank you for your help...

Just checked it again, played Shadow warrior (remake) and the only way I can describe it its like a pair of barber clippers cutting someones hair.. lol. Ive owned so many GFX cards never ever heard anything like it.. its quite scary. Played Rise of the Traid 2013 and I actually thought it was going to blow up it was so loud I had to quickly quit out.

How long is returning it going to take, with easter and all too.. so annoying as im building this for a mate and promised it today :( I might just buy another PSU anyway.. any recommendations?

Hi Rare,

Cheers for that mate, but its going into an mITX case, sorry should have said, lol.

160mm length max and both those are bigger.. anything of the same quality but smaller?

Sorry mate :)

Hi mate, The silverstone seems okay.. so if I got that 750w Silverstone one and the card still buzzing like a chainsaw than its gotta be the card?

What i'm asking is would OcUK be more satisfied if I used that PSU rather than this much cheaper Corsair one?

hmm, okay.. i'm just sooo frustrated cos I can see this taking ages to sort out and I kinda needed this done before Easter weekend. what makes it worse is the the damn thing works perfectly if not for the noise, GRRRRR!!!

Cheers anyway mate, thanks for your help.

That psu if fully operation is fine for gtx 970 mate

This.

You should ask OcUK if you purchase a £100 psu and the 970 still produces coil whine if they will do a collect and return full refund on the psu if the card still whines.

You already paid a premium for coil whine reduction on the 970 black which would take you to ~£400 for a coil whine free experience, that should be had for ~£270.

hmmm.. as much as I think that is a great idea, I don't think they will as if it is the gfx card they will have to refund me both PSU and GFX card. But your right, its ironic that the one card I get with this coil whine thing is the one that I pay extra for and not suppose to not have it.. lol.

TBH I'm lost, not sure what to do now.. buy another PSU or wait bloody ages for OcUK to check my card (at my cost to return by the looks of it) on a 'better' PSU which im looking at middle of week after by the time it can start being used. Talk about being punished for buying something.. lol.

Ok well, I just went all out and ordered the Corsair Professional Series AX 760W '80 Plus Platinum' Fully Modular PSU.

If it still does it with this bad boy then its 100% the card :)

Will let you know.
