What type of things should you do to maintain a good pc ?

I ask this as I built a computer for the first time last year and since then ignorantly i have not done anything with it other than anti-virus scans.

Its main purpose is gaming -I don't do any torrenting or file sharing on this PC the only things i download are items from steam and Origin etc.

I have a 256GB SSD which i have does not need deragging but do have a 1TB hard drive that's been in operation around 6 months other than def-ragging this is there anything else i should do to help try and keep things running smoothly aside from the obvious anti virus scans?

I use HWmonitor for all of my temps. It gives you the max its reached as well so you can see what it peaked at.

Edit: my bad wrong post. Can't delete

Open it up and remove dust build ups. Recently removed the shroud of my GPU (7970) it was thick with dust. After removing dust the temperature dropped massively resulting in it being much quieter.

In terms of physical maintenance, there shouldn't be much you need to do to your PC apart from cleaning it from accumulated dust as has already been mentioned. In terms of software maintenance, seeing as you're downloading your files reputable sources, you'll hopefully not have any malware problems anytime soon but you could maybe use CCleaner every once in a while to remove unnecessary files.
