Protect and Serve . . . yeah right !

2014
The Officer Down Memorial Page reports 127 deaths in the line of duty. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund counted 126 federal, state, local, tribal and territorial officers killed.

I Wonder how many officers were killed by black vs white criminals ??

Just for context, worth giving the detail of that statistic. Less than half appear to be possible murder cases;

Line of Duty Deaths: 127

9/11 related illness: 1
Assault: 2
Automobile accident: 26
Drowned: 2
Duty related illness: 3
Fire: 1
Gunfire: 47
Gunfire (Accidental): 2
Heart attack: 19
Motorcycle accident: 4
Struck by vehicle: 5
Vehicle pursuit: 5
Vehicular assault: 10

Not necessarily. Most of Europe's police forces are routinely armed (including traffic wardens in Italy etc.) and they all manage to not to gun down anyone year in, year out.

No you wouldn't, just like you don't see the same issues in continental Europe, despite routine arming.

you have no way of knowing that, they dont seem to have a problem brutalizing people who dont comply when they think they can get away with it, i.e demos and removal of numbers to identify individual officers just one example.

You're trolling.

He is running away, whether or not he had the tazer doesn't matter at that point, he was running away and in no way an immediate threat.

You can see that on the video, you don't need to know what happened before.

Much like if an armed suspect drops their gun, it doesn't matter they had a gun before, now they do not (I know in America this still means shoot them anyway)

Running away means they might not be a threat to the officer but what about the people they meet on thier way?

He did not shout and tell the man to stop though. He just shot him. He did not even attempt to give chase. He shot an unarmed man in the back.

He wasn't being detained for a violent crime, he was being detained for a busted tail light.

So anyone that runs from police should be gunned down in case they are going to attack people in the area?

He hit him 5 times, which I guess isn't that bad out of 8 shots fired that quickly on a moving target?

I know people think they would get 8/8 (with all those l33t BF/COD skills) but in real world conditions like that, I'm not so sure.

And where in that urban environment did those extra 3 rounds end up?

Not talking about this event in particular (it's an out an out execution ) but that running away in general doesn't mean no longer a threat.

I'm pleased the officer is being charged and I'm pleased by the mayors response.

Hopefully serves to prove that officers will be held accountable for the crimes they commit, like the general public are.

Stick on point.

This was an execution, the man was shot in the back five times by an officer.

I guess he hadn't counted on someone filming it. Makes you wonder how many unfilmed "righteous" kills were really justified.

Don't get me wrong, if someone is a genuine threat and they are shot dead then that's the way of the world but this video looks like a someone shooting someone in the back multiple times thinking he'd be believed since he's a cop.

Still got to get to, and through, a jury yet.

true but most of the time it does

sure the police catch up with a serial killer, 'terrorist' etc.. etc.. they don't manage to arrest him but he starts fleeing weapon in hand - well yeah in that case there is a threat to the lives of others
