Drink drive limit

As said, it varies for different people. I was breathalysed after having a big meal with two pints of Aspalls cider - started drinking around 7pm, stopped around 11pm, got in the car around 1:30am, was breathalysed shortly afterwards and was well under, as I suspected I would be. I wouldn't just neck 2 pints of strong cider and get straight behind the wheel though, as I reckon that would put me over.

I'm 6' tall, fairly skinny, and a regular drinker although I'm not sure how much difference the latter makes.

How do you make 2 pints last 4 hours... :p

Personally I don't drink and drive now. Though a few years ago I did have 1 pint of cider and drove home a few times.

If I want to go to a pub with the mates, I'll have a cider shandy first time round. After that, I'll be on the lemonade.

Never drink if I'm driving but for some reason unknown even to me I do tend to ask for a non alcohol lager if I'm with folks having a boozy birthday lunch or something. It really is a stupid thing to do and I always used to lol at the very idea of drinking something that doesnt actually taste very nice, is quite expensive and doesnt get you drunk.. And is also quite embarrising to order. But I do it every time :(

On a related note though I'm sure a hell of a lot more people who have a zero drink drive policy are somewhat more laissez-faire in their morning after driving, myself sadly included...

I think that's where our new stricter limit makes a difference for me

I'd not dream of driving early in the morning after more than even say 3 pints (finishing say 10/11) now. Personally that makes zero difference to my life and i'm happy enough with the limit. Wouldn't drive home after a pint unless I had a good couple of hours after it. Would previously quite happily have nursed two pints over a similar time frame to the above, though drinking a tops or something weak

I don't doubt however that the regular drink drivers are not the least bit phased by it.

I get the impression the OP was aiming for a thread of responses about what people thought the limit equated to in terms of pints / units for the average person, to gauge general perception and then triumphantly post that's it's considerably less than most people guessed, rather than a load of 'just don't drink at all' posts :p

I would expect for the average Mr Average male, 2 pints (so 5 to 6 units) would have you tickling the limit on a breathalyser.

Since it's been lowered I've not even risked a pint, the last two benders I've had I've been taken to work by my dad as I've been rough until 3pm.

I'd say I pint could put me over, I get a hit off my first pint that's for sure.

If I am driving then I rarely drink anything. Occasionally I have had one pint. But I wouldn't drink more. I know I would be under the limit but still prefer not to do it.

People are always desperate to tell everyone how anti drink driving they are. Naturally, these are the same people who will quite happily drive whilst tired, stressed, or angry and think nothing of it

I still find it hilarious how most of my friends are genuinely shocked if the designated driver has a pint or two on a night out, and yet are perfectly happy to be driven by someone who spends most of the drive looking down at their phone. Even worse are my colleagues in France, who constantly tell everyone how terrible drink driving is, then happily down 5 glasses of wine in the evening and drive home.

But wine isn't alcohol. Neither is beer.

In all honesty though, when I was driving, I used to have one beer at the start of the night, then that was it. Assuming there was a decent amount of time left on the night out of course (like 3+ hours minimum, else I wouldn't bother).

Now though, I just get a taxi, and be done with it. Not worth my license, or possible guilt.

I'll never forget an incident years back, I lived in Lincoln, went to the Ritzy night club, 2 Budweiser for £1 (to give you an idea of the timescale) I got rat faced my mate Glen drove my rather ropey XR3i back as I could hardly stand.

We got pulled, he blew over despite having 2 Buds all night and was arrested, at the nick I asked how I could get my car back home as I couldn't drive due to my state, so, they breathalysed ME and I blew under!!!

How this was possible I don't know, I'd been drinking from 9pm until 2am!

The police said I could drive the car and I did, 500yds, I parked and walked the rest, I was in no state to drive no matter what they thought!

My mate subsequently blew under at the station, walked to the car (he had my spare key as he drove it frequently) he got in and met me back home, he even passed me on the way but didn't pick me up!
A surreal night, I can only put it down to my mate being short, skinny and slightly built yet me being tall, heavily built and somewhat bulky!

Tldr don't drink & drive!
