GTA 5 PC videos no swearing?!?

They would be suspended/banned under personal attacks if they did that though DampCat. Even without swearing you can get suspended for calling someone an idiot/moron.

I do agree though that without the sweary rule the forum would just be full of it left, right and centre and it's not needed most of the time when communicating.

I suppose we were due another thread on debating the rules and complaining of suspensions.

It is not a bad thing though? Rules are there for a reason and it should not be beyond reasonable thinking that they do need to change from time to time and be discussed.

We are a forum, a community.

Well, forums are for discussing things, so are communities.

We know the rules won't change but people need to be able to at least discuss it/them.

The issue isn't swearing, its how people weild it. If you allow swearing on the board, then at first you have a few well placed F's and S's, then you get some casual F's and S's, and then before you know it you've got angry angsty anonymous posters calling each other D'z, C's, F's and X's.

And then we become YouTube.

At least without swearing people are putting more effort into their insults.

Since I got Bloodborne I have started to read the reddit forum. Apparently the swearing is allowed there but it does not get out of hand. I think most people on this and other forums that are passionate about the topics and carry out serious discussions seem to use swearing where it naturally fits in.

I have no problem showing posts in reddit to my familly since it does not get out of hand. At least not in the Bloodborne forum :)

We are grown ups. No reason to cencor swearing in my opinion. Normal people can handle that fine.

I'm a member on another forum too that allows swearing, however it's tolerance of certain 'political views' is much less. The forum is a mixed place and nobody gets out of hand with the swearing, the occasional name calling is as bad as it gets. It is not used in an over the top way.

This forum is different, it sells itself on being associated with the shop and being a 'family friendly' forum. However, the sexual innuendos, coupled with certain 'views' about aspects (not to mention the GiF's thread and some of the video's posted) I don't really view as family friendly either (by the same logic, it's not 4chan), but it's up to the moderators to address these things as they do not frequently listen to members on here. That's not having a go at anyone, that's just how I perceive it.

Please don't suspend me, it's just an opinion.

The moderation on this forum has always seemed very strong when it comes to swearing but some people get away with it depending on their 'status' on the forums.

I've seen people suspended for not fully starring out swear words and I've seen other people go unnoticed when doing it because they're a well known forum member or something. Can't we have a NSFW tag on forum threads or something

If this is a familly friendly forum, then all the portraied violance in games and film clips is 10.000 times more familly unfriendly than a swearing word. In my opinion.

Ingen rim och reson as we say in Sweden. Translates to no rhyme and reason :)

It's because if there wasn't the swearing rule, the mods would literally have nothing to do.

I think one time someone had a signature that was 2 pixels too big - that was a pretty big deal if I recall.

Many (hopefully all) violent and sexual videos are removed. The GIF thread was removed for being too OTT. People will push the boundaries - this is good as it makes us (the moderation team) think about how much we want on the forums.

I think mature conversation of controversial topics without leading to personal insults (which will result in suspension anyway) which do not contain swearing is far more appealing to read and contribute than a thread full of insults and swearing.

Sure some of you will use swear words regularly when talking with your friends, heck we all do say a swear word from time to time. Having it littered on a forum isn't particularly enjoyable for people to have to interact with, it's pretty crass too in my opinion.

Yes we don't get it right all the time, but with 10s of thousands of active users we must be doing something right, getting the balance of moderation reasonably well. I always enjoy these threads as it highlights people's perceptions - we are open to ideas and suggestions (I certainly am, very impressionable ;)) however we do also want to continue to be a forum that isn't a free for all. The rules aren't here to castigate people, they are there to try and maintain a certain standard. I don't think there is anything wrong in striving to be a better place? I don't believe we are doing anything massively wrong?

Perhaps if the Moderating Team here didn't make up their own Rules and impose their own likings, dislikings and differing senses of 'Morality' whenever it suits it wouldn't be brought up so often.

Examples? That doesn't happen whatsoever.

someone removed my sig once because it was over the file size or some BS.

So I made a new sig exactly "400 x 75 pixels, nor exceed 20Kb in file size"

20 KB = 20480 Bytes

The saw over 20000 and assumed it was to big.
I think I kicked up a big fuss about it at the time

Absolutely fair point.

Other forums I frequent do not have this issue, it is very much a indication of the type of posters you have if you can have swearing and the majority of posters do not swear.

So I take the point (and agree) that reading posts without a torrent of swearing is good, however it does not mean there will be a torrent of swearing if you allowed swearing (many members here do not strike me as being like that).

Sure some of you will use swear words regularly when talking with your friends, heck we all do say a swear word from time to time. Having it littered on a forum isn't particularly enjoyable for people to have to interact with, it's pretty crass too in my opinion.

Everyone swears, they're part of peoples vocabulary and depending on context convey a variety of meanings.

I personally find the sexual innuendo's and casual sexism on here far worse. Family friendly community translates as 'sort of family friendly forum for males'.

Absolutely, nobody is talking about a radical shift in terms of the rules. I do not think swearing should be allowed, however, if it's not allowed because of the forums status as family friendly there needs to be much more done in terms of cutting down on sexual innuendos and the sexist 'behaviour' of members.

You should want to encourage people to sign up, that includes children and women, they will find themselves alienated (specifically women) on the forum in my opinion (and gauging reactions of females I know that have either read the forum or read it over my shoulder).

You are also in the minority of moderators that is open to mature discussion about many things from my past experiences with the moderating team. The absolute rejection that any moderator is ever wrong is more harmful that good. You're openness and willing to engage in a pleasant manner is why you're pretty much the only moderator on here I hold any modicum of time for.

Removed it once? You have a history of uploading massive sigs or copying other peoples sigs!

Where do Battlefield videos fall? There's lots of clips from peoples gaming sessions here, both game swearing and actual players over their headsets.

What I also don't get is, you can be banned from posting links to site articles because some people swore in the comments of that site. Which could be 40 - 100 comments. It happens on Neowin a lot.

Whats the point of linking to articles if it means you're going to be banned because somebody swore in the comments of any site.

Even good interviews on Youtube from the likes of Gene Wilder, you can be banned because he swore but he only used it as an example for his interview because he spoke of how bad Hollywood has become. You're really limited now for such small problems when it wasn't supposed to bring any harm or offence.

There's hardly anything nowadays that doesn't have any form of swearing in it that can't be posted. I'm not justifying it but it seems to be thats how it is. Genie was out the bottle a long long time ago.
