***Official GTAV PC Thread*** [Important warning updated in the OP]

Glad im not interested in GTA Online the Single Player works flawlessly. I have been playing for hours today just cruising around and being a ninja assassin and stuff hehe.

Rockstar said that GTA Online was the main focus for GTA 5 but as true as that is because the single player IMO is the worst out of all the GTA games im sure mods will fix that so go away Rockstar your drunk.

how much did u drink this morning?

I'm loving how well the game runs, got the settings all jacked up on 1440p and it runs like a dream. However, I do have a question on CPU cores.

I was using some Intel overclocking software to keep an eye on cpu temps and utilization as well as active cores. Temps were low and utilization was consistently under 50% but it indicated that only 1 core was in use while gaming. If I alt-tabbed to windows it went up to 2-3 cores. Surely it’s not reporting it right? GTA on max settings would need more than 1 core and the fact that I’m only using around 50% must mean it's using all of them, right?

What do you guys think? CPU in question is a 5820k clocked to 4Ghz.

Had a bit of a play with the settings last night, can't remember them exactly but it's a mix of high/very high, 2xMSAA and some of the Advanced GFX Settings 'On'. Generally it runs between 50/60fps with some drops to around 30fps when there's a lot going. Pretty happy with that really considering how good it looks.

I came across a weird thing yesterday; was partaking in a night race (I think the track was called 'Dipping In') and at some points the whole night sky flickered white for a split second. A little distracting and obviously a small glitch, but nothing else. Performance stayed the same too. No artifacts either.

My 290 is overclocked but temps didn't go above 64 degrees, and CPU (8320 @ 4.5) didn't go above 43 degrees either (beta 15.4 drivers). I don't think that's the issue though.

Touch wood I've had no lock ups or crashes in the 4/5 hours I've been playing it, all good so far :)

Hang on, vsync caps at 30?

No, there's two types of vsync I think, the usual one that does it in step of 60 to 30, which can be pretty annoying when you go into a dense area of detail (e.g. foliage) and your frames drop so it start to cap it at 30.

I think there's also a adaptive version which works a bit better, and another called "half" (?).

VSync caps at 60

VSync+2 or whatever it is called caps at 30.

I think...

I've got an AGP card in my cupboard but I'd rather not resort to that.

I think a 8800 gtx could run this game. :p

Also note for anyone who doesn't already know.

If it won't let you save graphic settings (due to running over vram) then you can over ride it but turning off the "Suggested..." option (can't remember exact name) which is in graphic options.

You can then set whatever settings you want however when I bumped the texture detail up it did cause a low fps. I say low, probably like 30 but I'd rather play it butter smooth on normal for the time being. I am proper tempted to get another 960 gtx and go SLI for it though. :D

anyone see what happens if you exceed the memory warning limit?
does it completely ruin things or just lower the frame rate a bit ?

cant seem to get my 6950 2gb to get high on textures without going over the 2gb vram limit

Great thanks for that, wasn't expecting such a quick reply :) have you tried 3440x1440 with med-high settings vs your 2560x1080 set up?

Not yet but if you tell me your exact settings desired I'll test tonight and post the min, max and avg framerate!

i wondered that too, im pretty dam close to the limit and played for an hour last night n didn't have any problems but i didn't go over it from the settings but don't know what it was actually using,

Mine runs pretty terribly and also doesn't look amazing, the foliage looks like mesh... with all AA off everything else set to high.

290, 8350 @ 4.4 and 8 Gb ram

Get about 40 fps...

Any suggestions?

From what I've seen of benchmarks, the AMD cpu are miles off their Intel homies.

That's the cpu front.

On the GPU front the Nvidia GPU's are faster than their AMD homies.

So you've got a double whammy going on here. However the main culprit is your CPU.
